Started using some items ive been accumulating in preparation for Road trip to OBX North Carolina in September. Today was only the Rear and transfer Case fluid changed with Mobile 1 Devlac fluid.

Everything came out clean and light colored.
Magnet had some dirt come off on a white paper towel but no obvious debris.
The front will get done when I do the last minute oil change.

Next up is Brake system overhaul and stainless line upgrades in the rear

Worked on doing brake system overhaul this weekend. @ 142k

Front and rear Stoptech severe duty calipers
Stoptech SD pads and rotors/ rear centric premium rotors.
a Brake fluid flush and tire rotation

Of course I got to the last wheel, (drivers side front) and the steel brake hose from the caliper popped as soon as I touched it.

Found a line that was too long at pepboys but had matching fittings, did some "custom" bending and made it work. Stops like a new truck

Yes still stock diffs and original factory cv's. Although I rebuilt them a few years ago. Its definitely slower then stock with the larger tires and armor, but the v8 gets it moving good enough not to justify spending anything unless it breaks. Still gets decent road trip hwy mileage too.

Did you run into any issues with this or require any mods? Really considering the brake upgrade on the my v8. Also, would you mind sharing any links or part numbers to the specific stoptech gear? I am not having much luck looking for 4runner compatible stuff.

I feel like the truck stops better and smoother now then it ever did.

No issues that required mods,
only thing to note is to make sure when installing the brake pad hardware slider/clips on the rear calipers, they are side specific to the caliper and unlabeled. even though they look almost the same they aren't. The tiny tabs on one side should face away from the rotor, its an easy thing to miss. Also an easy thing to fix.
Also the Brake hose/line that goes from the front caliper to the fitting on the flex line is brittle and hard to deal with. Do yourself a favor and get 2 new lines while your there. They are cheap.

*When bleeding the brakes, have a friend with you.. pump the brakes until there leg cramps.. then pump more.. you basically cant pump them enough.. Bleed the line with the engine off, pump more, bleed Key on engine off .. pump more.. bleed with engine on.. pump more. Start with pass rear wheel, drivers rear wheel then pass front and then drivers. If VSC light comes on, turn engine on and dont pump for a minute and it will go off..

Added Metal tech extended Braided stainless brake lines for Upper rear between Body and diff and a fresh state inspection.

The brake lines definitely increased brake sensitivity and feel

Installed OEM smokers kit for Extra Power port.
Also Reinstalled FJ cruiser rear sway bar to replace my broken one.

that was quite a few years ago already, basically we had to notch the sliders to have that slight upward angle and also clear the rear doors. Since the install by my talented welding friend, I have used and abused those sliders and they haven't moved a hair. Id recommend them.

Got new headlight housings and installed the Xenon depot LED pro kit. They ae significantly brigher then the sylvania silverstar ultra's I had and you can adjust the individual bulb to fit the halogen style housing. Id say this is the best way to go until you decide to dive into the world of Retrofit's and HID's.

Also finally deleted the rear exhaust resonator. for 10$ I should have done this a long time ago lol.

extremely slight change in sound for the better, but im probably the only one who would notice. No other changes to note.

I have them sitting here collecting dust and rust.....:frusty: need to get them on. A few places I've called, w/o seeing them are quoting between two hours for both sides to two hours for each.....idk. How long did it take your friend to get those on?

After our vacation plans for a beach house got ruined in OBX NC by Hurricane Florence we diverted last minute to go northward. Me, My wife, my buddy and his girlfriend Packed both our trucks (his lifted 07 chevy tahoe) and booked a new hotel at the base of Mount Washington NH and then a cabin on Moosehead Lake Maine.

Everything was going great until 50 miles in to the trip, The Chevy Tahoe's U-Joint exploded at 70mph and the driveshaft shot out, missing the front my truck by inches. pretty scary.
After being towed to a nearby shop, we accepted reality and made the decision to pack out the 4runner with everything needed and continue on, sending his Tahoe home on a flatbed.

We moved the roof rack over, threw the spare on the roof and put the hitch carrier on the back with the huge heavy ass cooler on it. Stuffed in all their stuff inside and put the 4runner to work. It was as loaded as Ive ever had it but it hauled into the mountains like a champ.

We drove up the Auto road of Mount Washington, Used low gear up and down. https://mtwashingtonautoroad.com/ which was an excellent experience. Then explored a few other spots in NH before going onto Moosehead lake maine. Stayed in a cabin and explored some trailed through the back woods of Maine. Then drove home, going through to Portland for some lobster and back to NY.
Averaged about 14mpg, truck continues to put a smile on my face everytime its challenged.
