Where are the lube points on my 3rd gen. and what grease?

It is too bad the newer 4Runners don't have the greasing diagram like my 1st generation 4Runners did. If memory serves me right it was on the passenger side sun visor. Very convenient

Thanks for the link, I will check out what he has available as my 4Runner needs some TLC in other areas as well.

Rear suspension upper trac bar torn from axle...

I am up in Canada, and likely anything I would find used at a salvage yard would be not much better then my existing housing...have to love the salt up here.

Rear suspension upper trac bar torn from axle...

It would be the upper control arm bracket...took me some time but found someone local who is willing/able to fix it. Looks like the bracket cracked, the mechanic feels there is enough solid metal to weld it back together and re-inforce it. I will have him look at the bracket on the other side...

Rear suspension upper trac bar torn from axle...

Recently heard a new noise coming from the rear of my '97 4Runner and had a look and was surprised to see that the bracket that attaches the upper "trac" bar (not sure if that is what it is called) to the rear axle is rotten right through...Is this repairable or do I start to part the truck out...

How fast has you t4r gone?

Fastest I have been in a 4Runner was about 175 KM/H in my newish at the time '88 4runner. That was a long time ago, any 4runners since then have stayed within 20-30 km/h of the speed limit.

    Rear door not closing

I have the same issue, and in my case I am guessing that a spring likely let go in the latching mechanism so the part needs to be replaced. You do have to remove the black panel to change it out as the latching mechanism is all one part including the cable up to the handle mechanism. If you...

    Well that's that...

Funny you say that, my first car at 17 (ok not 16 but close) was a '89 4Runner and within 8 months I wrapped it around a pole...yep I thought it was a race car. :redbrick: Lesson learned, now on my fourth 4runner and love them more then ever, and now I have a "summer" car to take to the track...

    Rust question

My rockers look worse then that on my '97, but considering it has been a winter beater up here in Canada since new, it is not surprising. In my case the truck was my dad's and he dealer serviced it right up until last spring and because of that maintenance working on the truck is actually not...

    how to easily disable ABS?

As everyone else has said, best thing you can do with a '96-'97 4Runner, pull the fuse and then pull out the ABS light in the dash. Did mine a year ago and my truck has been much safer for it. It was downright scary prior to that, even when the ABS was working as designed....

So How Much Did You REALLY Spend on Your Gen 3 4Runner?

Purchase price was $0 as it was given to me from my father who has owned it since new in 1997. It currently has the equivalent of about 110,000 miles and in the last two years of ownership I have put about $2000 into it including new tires, '99 tall coils and Rancho shocks in the back and...
