Thanks all This is all very helpful. I will start checking the easy stuff first. I had failed to mention that my Cadalydic converter is out, not sure if that would have any of the above mentioned affects on the vehicle. And no I have not had or done any maintenance recently under the hood...

Today my 4runner wouldn't start on the first turn of the key (clicking). Second turn it started very rough. After pulling out of the driveway the vehicle would not gain speed, seems as if it couldn't get enough gas. It would chug and lurch. As I turned the corner the front end started clicking...
