rough start and chuggin

Today my 4runner wouldn't start on the first turn of the key (clicking). Second turn it started very rough. After pulling out of the driveway the vehicle would not gain speed, seems as if it couldn't get enough gas. It would chug and lurch. As I turned the corner the front end started clicking loudly until I straightened the wheels. After driving around the block once I let it warm up a bit longer. By the time I got to work it seemed fine.

I apologize for the lack of detail in my post, as I know very little about mechanical failure. Please help.

Easy stuff first... clean MAF, clean manifold with Sefoam (through PCV hose), clean Throttle Body.

Also check coolant level... if it's down you could have a head gasket issue (sorry to be a Debbie Downer but I am going throught this right now).

If the coolant looks good (which I hope it does) could be the plugs or wires.

I had something like this happen to me recently. I changed spark plug wires (helped somewhat, maybe unrelated), then changed out the "Coolant temperature Sensor". Screws into the top front of the engine, look at it first and make sure you have a tool to get at it, before you disassemble (deepwell socket, don't remember the size). Changed this out, and instantly cured the rough running, high idling, bogged-down acceleration.

have you or someone else done anything under the hood recently? could be a # of things but my guess is possible vacuum leak

This is all very helpful. I will start checking the easy stuff first.
I had failed to mention that my Cadalydic converter is out, not sure if that would have any of the above mentioned affects on the vehicle.

And no I have not had or done any maintenance recently under the hood.
