Toyota and the Taliban hostage bergdahl (OT)

We were a unit that was teaching the Iraqi Air Force our jobs. It was actually THEIR vehicle, as were a couple of UAZ's, a KIA "Bongo" van, a large Hyundai 22 passenger bus, and "Our" vehicles were a couple of Silverado pickups. The "Deer" is a remarkable copy of a Toyota, and is tough, but I...

Toyota and the Taliban hostage bergdahl (OT)

Sorry to say, that isn't a Toyota. It is a "Great Wall" Deer. We got one for our unit (Iraqi) while I was over there. It is a Chinese copy of a Toyota. Even the graphics are the same as ours was. -----Metalguy

    Newbie to 4runners noise question.

Guys, I have had my 1995 4runner for about 2 months now, and have a question about a noise from the front-end. When the steering is at, or near full lock, and I go over a bump, there is a kind of crunch noise, but never when it is less than full turn. What is this? CV joint? I would think they...

    9 4Runner overheating, please advise

My '95 bubbled the overflow tank after I shut it off today. Ialways watch the temp gage, and today it was all over the map, almost to red, then back to half way, and then between.....And then I get home, shut it off, and I hear.....bubbles. So I too am wondering on the HG issue. I will go out...

    Power antenna fix with pic's

I just replaced mine. The old antenna was broken off, leaving a nice, coarse, sharp edged piece sticking up. The motor didn't cycle with the radio, so I had to go into the fender. I found the PO had just disconnected the harness from the antenna! Once hooked up, the motor cycled fine, so I...

New guy to 4Runners rear shock removal question

Only problem with using a pipe wrench on the shock body is that the part that it needs to grip is spinning free from the upper part of the shaft. Evidently, the weld that was supposed to hold it is broken. I'll get them off by cutting. The new ones will be a breeze to install. Thanks all...

New guy to 4Runners rear shock removal question

I may just saw them off, but I doubt I'll be able to unscrew the shocks, as they are pretty rusted up, and access is pretty limited. I was just wondering if I was maybe missing something for easier access, or some trick I didn't know.-------Metalguy

New guy to 4Runners rear shock removal question

Guys, I just got some shocks for my 1995 4runner, and while the fronts went off without a hitch, the rears have very little access to the top nuts, and just want to spin when turned. Any tricks for better access? If not, I will probably torch off the top ends, and get them out that way...

    3.0 barely runs

Good you will have her back driving soon. This has me thinking I need to change my timing belt. I have no idea when it was last changed! Mine runs fine, but you never know. -------Metalguy

What did you do with your classic T4R today?

I fixed my power antenna today. Bought the mast through amazon, and found that the plastic grommet attached to the old one was needed to make the new one stay in place. The PO disconnected the power to the antenna after the mast broke, evidently, and just removed the old mast and plastic, then...

What did you do with your classic T4R today?

Lets see...I removed/replaced ALL the speakers in my '95, and found out the ones on the sides in back do not work! So...I removed the head unit (Aftermarket Pioneer) only to not see anything wrong with it?? I did notice the power antenna lead wasn't hooked up to anything, too. Tomorrow I will be...

Rough idle when not warmed up

Mine is acting exactly like Nobleshield's symptoms. My check engine light just came on, and it was doing it before that came on. I haven't had a chance to do the diagnostic yet. -------Metalguy

    2nd Gen T4R Picture Gallery

Some pics of mine. I just got this 2nd gen 3.0 automatic 4Runner as a trade for my old 1988 Honda Shadow 1100. It all works, except the crap stock speakers, replacements on order. I will also be adding a plate front bumper soon.-------Metalguy

    3.0 barely runs

Bummer. I hope you have no bent valves then! Mine was just running rough at startup, and after it warms a bit is just fine. It has done it a couple of times now. At least you found the cause! ------Metalguy
