    E-Brake light

I forgot the e-brake light was always "on" when the motor is not running, thanks FlyinHawaiian. Since I had already added brake fluid to the reservoir (which was low), the brake light went off after starting the truck and releasing the e-brake handle. Thanks for the help! Mike

    22re question

x3 on the TPS (throttle position sensor) I had a similar problem and chased a few other possible causes, it turned out to the TPS. It's waaay easier to test if it's off the engine, and I put off testing this item since the TPS was only 12-18 months old ... but it was bad. A new TPS got me...

    E-Brake light

As a test I unplugged the brake reservoir plug, and it made no difference when I pushed the e-brake switch in and out.

    E-Brake light

1986 T4R, 22RE, no mods on the suspension or brake system (all stock) -- My e-brake light won't go off all the time. Once in a while it will go off, but very seldom. I checked the switch that the e-brake handle pushes, I pushed it all the way in with my finger and the e-brake light only dims a...

    Intermittent cylinders dropping

I had a similar issue. I tried all the easy to get to stuff, plugs, wires, distributer, coil ... finally pulled the air induction to get to the fuel injectors and discovered one injector connector with a broken snap connector. It was secure most of the time but was occasionally pulling back far...

    22RE replacement

You might notice a difference, but with 33's on it you'd need to change the gearing to get a big difference. I lowered my gearing from stock 4.11 to 4.88 (I have 31's and 16" wheels) and it really changed the power. My son has a stock '87 T4R with stock tires and wheels, my truck now gives me...

    1989 fender bender build

How much rubbing/clearance issues do you have with the 33's on the truck? I have 31's on my '86 T4R and stock suspension with no clearance issues. I lowered the gearing to 4.88 and am considering 33's the next time I buy tires, but I'm not sure about the clearance. Thanks, Mike

Opinions on buying this 88 runner

Unless the body is completely rust AND dent free, and the suspension needs no immediate attention, and the tranny/drivetrain is good, and the tires have 15,000 miles left on them ... I'd pass. There's a lot of work when changing between engines when you aren't removing/installing the same type...

Need some serious mechanical advice please!

Sometimes things fail and they have nothing to do with the maintenance you are otherwise trying to accomplish. It sounds like your heater core failed during the test drive. Additionally, it sounds like your timing may be incorrect. When I installed new fuel injectors on my 4R, I couldn't get...

Tune Up / Vacuum Check ?

My '86 is a little different from yours, I don't have something like that. What I do have is a Factory Service Manual (FSM) that I purchased off of e-bay or Amazon. It's been a great help, like today I replaced my faulty TPS (throttle position sensor), it had all the info on how to test it and...

Tune Up / Vacuum Check ?

I'm not sure what a "2 wire tachometer" is, but I use a timing light with the RPM readout to check my RPM when I'm doing the timing or adjusting idle RPM. I'd suggest getting one of those, they're pretty handy.

    22RE issues

I fixed it Friday, and it runs better than ever now. It is smooth with no misses, hot or cold, and starts right up without ever touching the gas pedal. I'm not sure why it wasn't working the last time I put it together. I couldn't find any grounds that were loose or unattached. I did notice two...

    22RE issues

Yep, new rubber O-rings on the top and bottom of the injectors, and no fuel smell after running it. I also looked closely when it was running and could see no fuel leaking from either connection on the fuel rail. Everyone else says it's probably not the injectors, but I've replaced nearly...
