Could be a messy Lube place that didn't clean up the underside after changing the oil/filter too. Then it dripped down and coated your diff. Check to see that the drain bolt and filter are tight.

Sure, the unit bearing presses onto the hub spindle. Before you take the stock assy apart, make note of how far the the unit bearing is pressed onto the stock hub spindle. Then, set your new one to this same depth when you press it on.

2" body and 3" ultimate lift would work. Unless you go custom or cut a lot of body then that's about as tall as I'd go.
