Should I Keep Putting Money Into My 2001?

My brother loves to give me shit when I have to fix something on my '02 and tell me how awesome his brand new Tundra is, but here's the thing- he's paying like $700/month for a new $60k vehicle, and I paid off a $9k($230/month) loan on my 4Runner a few years back. Including fuel and regular...

    P1783 code- 4WD Position Sensor?

Thanks for the diagram! When work calms down a little I'll check this out and report back.

    P1783 code- 4WD Position Sensor?

Does anyone have any experience with this code? All I could find online and T4R search is that this code was specifically added to 2002 4Runners, and doesn't apparently exist in any other models of 3rd gens. my 4WD actuator failed last year, so I replaced the front diff ADD actuator and swapped...

    Anyone good with carburetor issues?

I dont think so...the bowl looks like a solid milled piece, unless it was hidden underneath the float. I filled it up with fuel and sure enough it started leaking again right on the gasket- its definitely leaking from one of the two underlined gaskets. Slow, but definitely enough to drain that...

    Anyone good with carburetor issues?

Thanks! That gives me a great lead to start diagnosing. I'm pretty sure fuel is leaking out of that bowl, which would make sense because pumping the gas when the engine is cold doesn't produce fuel, but it runs great when I do get it started. I'll pull it apart today and see what I find.

    Anyone good with carburetor issues?

Sorry, yes I have to pour a little fuel through the open butterfly valve to prime the system. Once it fires up it runs great, and even turning off the engine for a minute it restarts just fine. But after 30 minutes or so the fuel apparently drains out and it wont start. I do pump the pedal to...

    Anyone good with carburetor issues?

I've got a '73 Jeep CJ5 that is having some fuel delivery issues. Just replaced the fuel filter, but unless you prime the carb with fuel the engine wont start. The PO installed an Offenhauser intake manifold and 2bbl carb thats got no markings on it anywhere...any ideas? I'd like to try a gasket...

    Did I overtighten spark plugs?

Thanks guys, I think I'll just leave em in and check with a torque wrench. I'd honestly be surprised if I damaged the threads because I didn't force anything, but going back and reading a bunch of threads about 13 ft lb torque and hand tight + 2/3 turn made me second guess myself, especially...

Sliders: Angled up or Flat/sticking out

I angled mine to minimize the chances of slipping through the slider and catching a foot. Depends on the manufacturer, but my friend's girlfriend did that and broke her leg so ya never know. On the other hand, if you angle them up too much they can contact the body and rattle like crazy on...

    Did I overtighten spark plugs?

Yeah I know I'm an idiot. I wasnt thinking and just tightened them probably 3/4 turn past hand tight, didnt force anything, just kept cranking the socket until the crush washer flattened and I met resistance. I'm pretty sure I did the same thing 70k miles ago on the last spark plug change, and...

    So I bought a CJ5...

Wouldn't it be bad to get trail debris or moisture in there? I might just cover it with some metal duct tape if thats the case for now. Although I do have a friend who can weld aluminum so patching would be easy.

    So I bought a CJ5...

Thank you AuSeeker great info! I had time to pull the starter today and found the gear had split in half, only found one half and some shavings, so I'm thinking the other half might be behind the hole in the bell housing. Prepping to drop the transmission and get this patched.

    So I bought a CJ5...

Thank you this is exactly what I needed. Do you think I can get that sucker down with a regular floor jack or should I shell out for a transmission jack?
