    Tire Size and Fuel Economy

Thanks for the replies guys. Some good thoughts on going with the skinnier tire, 255/75/17. Personally, though, I don't like the look of the skinnier tire. Looking at a spec sheet here for the duratracs...I see the 255/75s are a 32" tire, and comes in P rated. The 265/70s are a 31.7 inch tire...

    Tire Size and Fuel Economy

Just curious if anyone has any "real world" fuel economy numbers they'd like to share. T4R currently has the stock size 265/65/70 tires on. I was pretty set on going up just a bit in tire size to 265/70/17 when I get new tires. Several of my buddies are tying to persuade me to go with...

Winter rated AT tires vs dedicated winter tires?

Thanks for that info guys. Those are some good links wcjeep, thank you. Well, it seems the consensus is some AT tires, and certainly AT tires with the snow flake, will be decent snow/ice. However, dedicated snow tires will always come out on top. Where we do 99% of our daily driving AT tires...

Old Man Emu springs and shocks.

Thanks spanvs888 and scotblink23. Well, it is settled. The suspension shop where I'm getting the work done is an ARB dealer and they specialise in Toyotas. If the owner disagrees with the package I want him to install of course I'll consider what he has to say and possibly change my mind. If he...

Old Man Emu springs and shocks.

Yo! No worries, busy time of year! Thanks for that reply, a lot of good info in there. A few thought and questions.... -I think your vehicle looks quite sharp with the 883/895e lift, and the 265/70/17 Michelin M+S tires. I have had those tires on several vehicles in the past - love them...

Winter rated AT tires vs dedicated winter tires?

Was shooting the s**t today at work with some guys about the above topic. Naturally there was some disagreement! I have my own opinion, which could totally be wrong. Hoping to set the record straight here. Alright, so while most AT, SUV/Truck tires, are not winter rated (snow flake on the tire)...

    Tow ropes/chains/straps

Well, as I suspected we got a come-along for xmas. It's a 4-ton if that matters. My plan before next fall (our primary fishing/hunting season, and when we do most of our off-roading) is to... -get some sort of container/tote to put the come-along and other tow stuff in. In it put: -the come...

Time for new A/T tires. Brand? Load rating?

Makes sense. I think the 265/70/17 is the size I'll go with as I like the look better of the slightly wider tire. Thanks for everyone's advice. I plan to go with the P rated Duratrac in the above mentioned size.

Time for new A/T tires. Brand? Load rating?

Right on, thanks. I'll mention it to the guy who owns the shop where I'm going to get the suspension work done. I'll probably go with his advice regarding the diff drop. Honestly I'm not really a "car guy." Much more of a gun and fishing guy! However I figure since I've decided to go with all...

    Tow ropes/chains/straps

Awesome info! Thanks a lot guys. Well, I am for sure going to get a recovery/snatch strap. Sounds like the only way to go if a vehicle is truly stuck. I can just imagine trying to use something with no stretch, and the recovery vehicle is just spinning it's tires. ARB with a 17,000 rating was...

Time for new A/T tires. Brand? Load rating?

This is a bit off topic, but I'm not having much luck in my other thread on OME suspension with this question so I'll try it here. Is it "necessary" to add the front diff drop kit to the coil/shock combo I plan on buying? It's the Old Man Emu (OME) 885 (F) and 895(R) spring combo. Should lift...

Time for new A/T tires. Brand? Load rating?

Awesome thanks for that. I'm curious, why did you go with 255/75? I believe they are essentially the same size as 265/70 (what I plan to go with). I'm guessing the 255s do a bit better in the rain and snow? And perhaps lose a bit handling/cornering...and maybe not quite as good in mud?

    Tow ropes/chains/straps

Confession: I don't carry any type of tow rope/chain/strap when I go into the backcountry. Yes dumb I know! I rarely get myself into areas where I could get stuck, but I would rather "have it and not need it than need it and not have it." I don't "go wheeling" but I do explore a lot of forest...

Time for new A/T tires. Brand? Load rating?

Curious if anyone out there has, or knows someone you has the Duratrac's in P rated 265/70/17 and if they like them. I believe it was S P A R K Y who said earlier in this thread that his brother has them on his Tacoma and loves them. Seems the P rated tire in this size is fairly new. Just...

XREAS shot, what are my options?

I'm in the same boat. XREAS is shot on my 2008, 4x4, V6 sport. Several options to consider depending on how much $ you want to spend and the quality of ride you want to achieve. After doing a lot of reading on this site I was between replacing the coils with used FJ coils from a 07-09, and...
