Secondary Air Injection Pump Failure on V8's! Important!

Anyone ever run into the issue where you couldn't install the block-off plates because the bolts were too rusty? I can't even put a 10mm wrench on them. The wrench just spins. If they were easy to get to, I'd just cut them. But that's not possible given their location. My 08 left me sit...

    Power steering pump leak

It did just start out as valve cover gasket replacement, but the service manager called and said the cam cap seal was leaking, and would end up costing around 1200 to fix - and if I wanted to proceed. Since I plan on having the 4runner for about five more years I told them just to replace it...

    Power steering pump leak

Hi Weaves, Yep, all the bolts that broke off had the exposed bottoms to them. I'm attaching a pic of what was repaired by the dealer. Also, when I got it back, it developed a noise that sounds like a common-rail diesel. So I had to take it back and they tore down the right hand side valve...

    Power steering pump leak

Update: Turned out to be the valve cover gasket. Dealer replaced both and broke six bolts in the process. Also claimed timing cover gasket was leaking. In typical dealer fashion, the total was just shy of $1,300.00.....

    Power steering pump leak

Ouch! that price is a hard pill to swallow. So, it has started to leak again, but this time the source is a little easier to locate. It's above the power steering pump. So I am going to assume it's either the valve cover gasket, intake cam seal, or exhaust cap seal? I'm going to make...

    Power steering pump leak

Thanks for the suggestions Weaves. I'll have to give that o-ring area a close inspection.

    Power steering pump leak

Truthfully, I'm not fully convinced it's the ps pump leaking. I'ts not making any noises, not loosing any fluid through the reservoir, and no difficulty in steering. I also asked the service rep if the tech thought the pump was leaking and they weren't convinced it was either. So I'll have to...

    Power steering pump leak

Thanks for the reply, but all the hose connections were dry. I took it to the local Toyota dealer today and there were unable to determine the source of the leak and could not duplicate it. They just cleaned it up and said to keep an eye on it. So I'm back to square one :(

    Power steering pump leak

Hi All, Tried searching but didn't find much. I think my 08 V8 4Runner (105K miles) has a power steering pump leak. It doesn't seem like a common issue with these vehicles, so I'm wondering if anyone else had this happen to them? Two pics attached. I assume the pump is leaking. The...

    5th Gen Calipers

Thanks Slowgoat, that did the trick! Still dumbfounds me how you can bleed the system without opening a bleeder. I have a diesel truck that has a hydroboost. When I replaced the rear wheel cylinders, I don't remember having to go through this. Thanks Again, Brandon

    5th Gen Calipers

So I just had new Centric Calipers, OEM pads, and 5th gen OEM rotors installed on my 08. I noticed the pedal travels much further to the floor before the brakes grab now. Has anyone else experienced this after the swap? I'm guessing I either need to give them some time to bed, or my mechanic...

Why is V8 Full Time AWD?

I believe you can keep it in 4HI all the time as long as you don't engage the central transfer case lock (button to the left of the steering wheel). The transfer case lock should only be used in reduced traction situations.

Why is V8 Full Time AWD?

If you really dislike the AWD, I think it would be possible to convert to the V6 2WD/4WD system. You would need the VF4AM T-Case, the V6 front diff with the ADD unit, VF4AM 4WD control unit, and the VF4AM 4WD switch. That should be it in terms of parts. Now you will have to add the missing...

    Installing an Eaton TrueTrac

Thanks for all the replies, I really appreciate it. My plan was to take it to my mechanic to have it installed since I don't have the proper tools or know-how to set up a rear. He installed a set of ARB lockers (which coincidently I bought from ECGS) in my Cummins, so I assume it should be no...

    Installing an Eaton TrueTrac

Hello, I recently purchased a 08 V8 Limited with 39K on it. I really like it and it seems really well built. I had planed two mods for it and completed one (HID’s). The last thing I want to do is have an Eaton TrueTrac installed in the rear. I know I need the 913A610 LSD, but what else is...
