Installing an Eaton TrueTrac

Hello,
I recently purchased a 08 V8 Limited with 39K on it. I really like it and it seems really well built. I had planed two mods for it and completed one (HID’s). The last thing I want to do is have an Eaton TrueTrac installed in the rear. I know I need the 913A610 LSD, but what else is needed? I am not too familiar with these rears other than they resemble a Ford 9’’. I assume I need new carrier bearings and a crush sleeve. I see there are master rebuild kits, but I don’t know which one I need. From what I gather, the rear is an 8’’ “V6” rear with 30 spline shafts and pinion. All the kits show either 27 or 29 spline. If anyone has installed a TrueTrac and can tell me what is needed, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Brandon

You can do the rear end rebuild while you're in there if you want, but at 39K, I don't see why you'd need to. But anyway, if you want to do it, I used the 29 spline kit when I did my e-locker retrofit:

Toyota 8" E-Locker Install Kit -MASTER - 29 Spline pinion

They are for 2001 and newer trucks. If you're going to do it, I'd recommend you do an upgrade to a solid pinion spacer instead of a crush sleeve while you're in there:

TOYOTA 8' V6/TURBO/ELD- SOLID SPACER

I'd also recommend you buy from these guys at East Coast Gear Supply. If you have any questions, you can call or email Chase Perry the owner and he'll be glad to help you out. He knows these things inside and out.

Again, you'd only need new bearings and spacers if you plan on rebuilding the thing, otherwise I don't see why you couldn't reuse the parts you have.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.

if it is a crush sleeve, and you are changing the carrier... you are changing the potential backlash on the gears and once you try to adjust the backlash with shims the crush sleeve is needing to be replaced. I would just take it to a shop for the install. Most of the time they have a warranty for x amount of miles. but definitely buy your parts from ECGS! they are great.
Hope this helps. I have changed a lot of gearings in jeep axles, there are way more options.

great choice on the traction device. I have yet to use one myself, but I love the design, it should work very well.

to add to what was said above, pull the 3rd, and take it to a shop for the install.
That is a full carrier replacement, I would replace all the bearings since they will have to be pulled off anyway. you will need a complete set up kit, and the bearings.

I also agree about going with a solid spacer. they may charge you a little more for the set-up, since it may take a bit more time, but its worth it.

TrueTrac is one of the Best limited slips on the market. No clutches to wear out and you always have positive forward traction. I hope to do one in the rear of my V8 some day...

Thanks for all the replies, I really appreciate it. My plan was to take it to my mechanic to have it installed since I don't have the proper tools or know-how to set up a rear. He installed a set of ARB lockers (which coincidently I bought from ECGS) in my Cummins, so I assume it should be no problem for him. Thanks for setup kit and pinion spacer link. I will definitely get one since I am not a fan of crush sleeves.
