My 1999 limited had the same problems until I cleaned the MAF sensor and changed the air filter. The engine purrs like a kitten now. BTW, the Autozone code checker said the problem was cyl 4 missing. (wrong)

Previous owner took my 1999 4runner to those quick oil change places and must have removed the skid plates and put them back with half the bolts missing. The ones still there are stripped (discovered when I changed oil) so I want to replace them. They are Metric 8 mm, but neither course not fine...

Happened to me too, It turned out to be the radiator cooling fan clutch not kicking in to cool the engine. Replaced at shop, Ok now.

I removed the filter his way also, but no way to keep a lot of oil draining down the side of the engine. What a mess compared to catching the oil from the drain plug. Next time I'll stuff a lot of old rags under the filter and maybe have less mess. BTW, never go to those quick oil change...

I have a 1999 4runner limited, auto,a/c, and I'm getting 14.2 mpg in town. From the mpg numbers above, it looks like I'm not getting the mileage i should. Does anyone have a suggestion to improve my mpg?

My 1999 4runner limited, with 165,000, was slipping from standing start when cold. Was OK when warmed up. Flushed the transmission and refill fluid took care of it.

trans slipping I had a similar problem with my '99 limited automatic. First thing in the morning, the trans slipped from a standing start only in drive, reverse didn't slip, hummm. It continued for a few minutes then was OK. A transmission flush, new trans filter and fluid fixed the problem...
