All you need is one parking space, a $30 ratchet set (or wrenches), axle nut socket ($15+ at parts store), and a hammer... Oh, and a jack and jackstands or concrete blocks. But hopefully you can find someone close by! I learned how to do it by just doing it :)

It'll be fine. Allowing dirt/debris to get in there will accelerate wear on the CV joint, but realistically you won't have any problems unless you get into wet mud/sand. Take the time to repair/replace properly at your earliest convenience.

Have you tried simply flushing the transmission and replacing the radiator? Much cheaper than replacing it; chances are it will work fine.

I recently replaced the rack on my 96 4x4 4Runner, with a reman unit from Advance Auto Parts -- Fenco is the brand on the box. Paid ca. $300 after core refund. I replaced the pressure lines on the rebuilt rack with the ones from my OEM rack-- the ones on the reman unit appeared to be smaller...

I'll take your advice and do it the way you mention then. All those "bedding" pages showed pictures of ricer cars, so I didnt trust them much anyway :cool:

I actually did the brakes myself... among lots of other things. I replaced my steering rack, lower control arm bushings, CV axles, brake pads, and rotors. The pads are Wagner ThermoQuiets, rotors are cheapos. I had read a few articles about "bedding in the brakes" which detailed hard stopping...

That diff was incredibly hard to put back in by myself. I painted my calipers for the hell of it while I was down there last night... Tonight Ill get the CVs installed and start looking at the steering rack.

Pic showing new starter, new LCA bushings and alignment cams/bolts, new rotors. Not visible: new lower BJs, new Wagner ThermoQuiet pads. Next step: install front diff.

Got that damned starter swapped out. It wasnt all that fun. Been working on bending all the alignment cam tabs that are bent back into position and cleaning 15-year-old caked on grease/oil from under there. Should get those LCAs back on tonight, maybe even the diff too.

No idea. Came with the truck. I honestly doubt they had been changed out over the course of its 200,000 previous-owner miles, considering it had the original spark plugs and wires.

I didn't, I bought a remanufactured unit from Advance Auto Parts, ended up costing less than $300 after the core if I remember correctly. I'm saving $50 every time I buy stuff from Advance by ordering online and using coupons (google for them). I can't resist lol :frog:
