    Transmission cost opinion

Went to get it from my guy this morning. Talked a bit, put it up on a rack and checked things out with him. The u joints appear to be ok and no weirdness with the drive-shaft either. While it was up there I took the opportunity to look at the front end like was suggested and it is all pretty...

    Transmission cost opinion

Thanks for the input on the u joint possibility. I pick the truck up on Monday morning and will see about checking that out. That would be a dream if it was just a u joint.

    Transmission cost opinion

Thanks for the input guys. The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning against the used tranny option. Like tundrayetti wrote, too much of a gamble for me. I talked to a transmission shop at length earlier and they sounded reasonable for a rebuild if it needs it. They also offered to pick...

    Transmission cost opinion

Got some transmission woes. The truck's in to the shop (guy I trust, not the stealer) and he's recommending replacement...bummer. It's a 94 2wd auto with just shy of 130K on the clock btw. Bound to happen sooner or later. Here's what he's saying: $1100 after install and tax for a used unit...

WTB: 15" OEM 2 Gen rims set

If anyone happens to have a set of 4 of the machined alloy 1st/2nd gen rims lying around and would like to sell them I would likely be willing to take them off your hands for a reasonable price. They don't have to be in mint condition or anything, just decent condition and not bent and able to...

Better Gas Mileage for My 1995 T4R V6

My mileage went from the 17ish in my earlier post to 15ish when I put the 17" FJ rims with 265/70 tires on. Got a little better after K&N air filter and cap and rotor. Best mileage with those tires was on an all highway run and I achieved just under 21mpg. When I get new ties I'm probably goin...

What did you do with your classic T4R today?

Threw in some knock-off weathertech type floor mats I picked up at Sams club. They're pretty solid and will do the job. Took advantage of some "cyber-monday" deals and ordered some maintenance items for 20% off plus free shipping: cap and rotor and fuel filter (forgot to do them like a...

Replacing my 22RE after 263,000 miles. Need advice!

Better the devil you know. Like has been said, with the 22re that truck should last you another 150-200K miles or more if it's clean as you say. Another used car with ~150K already on the clock...who knows? The new motor is less of a gamble IMO

    testing the newe 4runner

Ask the dealer to double check and see if the head gasket recall was ever done. The 3VZE has a propensity to blow headgaskets due to the way they designed the engine layout. Not sure what to say about you loss of poser going up hill. This motor is also not really known for being very powerful...

    Questions about my 4runner

Welcome! My first two cars were in pretty horrible shape, but I learned a lot from working on them and they still hold a special place in my heart today. I have to say this, so please forgive me and just read for a second: [rant]You ask if this is something you can wisely invest in. Vehicles...

    Softopper - Which Color ?

My vote's for tan. I've always liked the tan/grey look too. Second choice would be grey. Either way, that's a sweet rig you found.

    3rd gen 3.6liter v6 in 1st or 2nd gen 4runner

Personally I prefer the 1st and 2nd gens strictly due to body style and my personal tastes. Honestly it's the tailgate instead of the lift gate that is my biggest thing...I love that feature. My preferred rig would be a 1st gen w/22re 4 cyl and 5spd manual basically because they are practically...
