I built a simple roof rack

If I didn't already have the Yakima bars in my garage I would definitely use electrical conduit or some other pipe and just spray it black. How wide are your bars? I'm keeping my eyes open at worksites for some 1-1/8 conduit so I can make bars wide enough for two canoes sitting flat, rather...

I built a simple roof rack

I used some shallow unistrut, the Yakima bars from my Subaru rack, and some cush clamps to make a very easily adustable roof rack. The unistrut runs the length of the roof and is fastened down using the factory torx bolts. I bent each rail into a U so that the bars can be mounted parallel to the...

HELP!! Can't remove top plate nuts!

I drilled 1/8" holes in the nut on the back and then used a cold chisel and a hammer to smash the nut/splined bolt off and it worked easily. A cordless sawzall works well for the other two, but - as has already been said - trying to fit one onto the back one is a pain in the ass.

4Runner going into the shop - what else should I have repaired?

Yeah I'm having all the belts changed. I was under the impression that, since I'm having the work done at a dealership, they'd use an OEM starter - but I've received a few messages stating otherwise. I replaced the contacts in my starter a couple months ago but I've been getting an intermittent...

4Runner going into the shop - what else should I have repaired?

I'm heading out of town for 2 weeks for work before a long trip so I'm not going to be able to do the following preventative maintenance myself: water pump thermostat all belts new starter (solenoid is causing a grinding noise after starting) Can anyone think of anything else I should have...

    (Another) Starter Contacts Removal Thread!

I blasted mine all out with electrical contact cleaner, too, to clean up all the mess in there. If you haven't already put yours back in, that is.

    (Another) Starter Contacts Removal Thread!

Mine did the same thing. It would click 30-40 times, occasionally would turn a little, then click a bunch, then finally turn over properly. So yes, your contacts can still be bad even if the starter turns a tiny bit. I changed the contacts in mine and it starts, but the starter sometimes still...

Did anyone else do this when they mounted their B&M 70268?

Thanks for the replies! I don't imagine people have had too many leaks installing these things, and if they do they're easy enough to find. I'm pretty comfortable having the double nipple clamped twice on every side. Now I just need my ScanGauge to arrive before I drive back to the Yukon...

Did anyone else do this when they mounted their B&M 70268?

The send and return line steel-to-hose connections were going to be a pain in the ass to get to, so rather than cut the steel lines back further where I could access them, I used these brass threaded barbed fittings that came with the cooler. Obviously I've got 3 additional spots for a leak...

    Help!!! Strut install

Did they just install them for you too, since you were there anyway? I had a hell of a time getting my OME struts assembled by the Toyota dealership here. First they put the spring perch in upside down, then put it in properly but had the spring upside down, then had everything the right way...

    (Another) Starter Contacts Removal Thread!

Nevermind, it just had a bunch of crap on it holding the two pieces together.

How in the world do you get the black clip off that the blue arrow is pointing at? I've been trying for 30 minutes and all that happens is that the entire black clip assembly comes out of the hole it's mounted in on the starter.

    Help!!! Strut install

The bottle jack on the control arm worked for me, but just be absolutely sure you put blocks of wood in the gaps you create as they get wider so that they'll catch if the bottle jack pops out. I had mine pop out on the passenger side but nothing happened since the wood stopped any movement. The...

    Rear upper spring seat measurement

Sorry I'm late - had issues getting the rear shocks off. 2-5/8 at the narrowest part; 6 at the widest.

    Rear upper spring seat measurement

Barring any issues, my rear springs are coming out on Sunday and I can post a measurement shortly thereafter.
