    2005 SR5 V6 240k - The demons are gone

The downward spiral started at 170k with a blown head gasket. I'm a fair shade tree mechanic but farmed this out to another shade tree mechanic as I didn't have the time. It's been nothing but heartache since then. I'll make a long story short. I recently got the bug to get this vehicle sorted...

Not another P0174 and P0171 Thread

OK, it kind of is. After vanquishing this foe almost two years ago it’s back. This time I have a new theory based on this thread in the Lexus forum: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-2nd-gen-2004-2009/671879-finally-solved-p0171-and-p0174-codes.html In this case the finding was the seal...

P0174, Rough Idle & Strong Exhaust Smell

To be clear (in my mind anyway), you swapped the upstream A/F sensors as opposed to the downstream O2 sensors, correct?

Poss purchase: would 220k scare you off?

On the v6 (1GR-FE) it is not uncommon for that head gasket to go. They did a design change in 2006 but it all depends when that engine was manufactured. If you can absorb that cost and the typical small stuff like alternator, injectors, coils, etc then I would not be afraid. Mine has 205+ and we...

Need a new cat, what brand?

I just installed Eastern Catalytic Eco III direct fit cats. Rock Auto purchase. Not bad. I have a V6 so install was super easy. My Runner had 205k so it was time. The biggest difference was running temps. I never realized I was running hot until I changed the cats. Big difference on the gauge.

P0174, Rough Idle & Strong Exhaust Smell

I think that's a good test. Your pictures were impressive reflecting the difference in banks. Hope you solve it soon. When you do get it please post your findings. I know how frustrating this is.

P0174, Rough Idle & Strong Exhaust Smell

The fact that you have a V8 and I have the V6 makes me wary of offering false hope but since you are going to start digging a little deeper looking for an air intake leak I recommend pulling the fuel injectors and giving them a good look. I will say before I fixed my problem my LT fuel trims...

P0174, Rough Idle & Strong Exhaust Smell

Lean fuel mixture left and right bank. I've always had strong cat exhaust smells. The biggest clue for me (which is counter-intuitive to the lean codes) is the plugs, especially bank 2, were wet. To the Op... if you had your cats replaced 3 years ago and you've had no failures, like a blown...

P0174, Rough Idle & Strong Exhaust Smell

I have a v6 so maybe different problem, same symptoms. I had persistent P0171 and P0174 issues. I replaced all of the following to no avail: MAF CTS Injectors AF/O2 Coils Fuel Pump Added O2 bungs Plugs Vacuum Tubing And the answer was (hold for it...) CATALYTIC CONVERTERS My 4Runner has high...

    Anyone replaced their recirculation servo

It took me three hours and lots of skin. I'm old and dull-witted though. Now that I have it figured out maybe and hour. See this thread: Grinding/clicking under dash - air mix servo - Toyota Nation Forum : Toyota Car and Truck Forums This gives you the general idea about the internal workings...

    Anyone replaced their recirculation servo

On my 2005 SR5 V6 (single zone) system there are 3 servos. 1. DAMPER FOR BLOWER SERVO (currently being discussed) 2. MODE SERVO 3. DAMPER SERVO (usually called mix servo by this crowd) To answer your question directly, no. You are experiencing an issue with item 2 or 3 (or likely both). I...

    Anyone replaced their recirculation servo

Great thread. I discovered I had the same problem. I wonder how many people are driving around that unknowingly have this issue.

    Smell from a/c help!!

As Low-Tek commented could be a clogged condensation drain line. Happened to me once. Smells like a front load washer after mold sets up. Find the drain tube under the vehicle and stick a stiff tie-wrap up it. If water gushes out, viola.
