Had to go back to using the plastic oil filter housing

I appreciate all the responses. I've cleaned the metal housing, inspected it under magnification and will reinstall it next oil change which likely won't be until next June since that T4R isn't seeing a lot of mileage at this time. My stock of filters with the packaged o-rings are all OE so...

    S&B Intake box cover

I'm curious if anyone is running their intake with the cover off and have noticed any improvement: fuel economy and/or performance? I never noticed any fuel mileage improvement despite my likely anal hand calculated mileage at every fill-up and modest driving style. I'm also disappointed in my...

Had to go back to using the plastic oil filter housing

I've been doing oil changes for over 50 years. Yes, the metal housing is OE Toyota. Yes, I replaced BOTH o-rings having lubed them first. Yes, when I did my 1st oil change using the metal housing I swapped the internal perforated tube and have since swapped it back to the plastic housing. Yes, I...

Had to go back to using the plastic oil filter housing

The metal housing is OE Toyota as are the filters and o-rings. The odd thing is that this one began leaking about 3 months after a second oil change using it as well as after putting a fresh, lightly oiled o-ring in (properly) and ensuring everything was clean.

Had to go back to using the plastic oil filter housing

Back in 2020 when I did my first oil change on my '19, I installed a Toyota metal housing. Despite not being thrilled with how it seated with that "feel" that it was " tight enough", it was fine and didn't leak. This past June I did another oil change, buttoned everything up and again no leaks...

It is Possible to Get 25 mpg in a 5th Gen

This, plus eliminating or significantly reducing stop and go. Fuel mileage begins to drop dramatically over about 60 mph.

Exercising my 4WD on a regular basis

IIRC, at least in the OM for one of my older gen T4Rs, Toyota recommended driving with 4WD engaged for about 10 miles once a month. I'd check my 5th gen's manual but it's in an outbuilding and I don't think I have the pdf on this tablet.

Air conditioner stopped working now it’s fine???

I bought my son a used car years back and the ac compressor wouldn't kick in. I disconnected the wiring connector at the compressor, sprayed some contact cleaner on both. Over the next 7 years, it never acted up again. It may not be your problem but it's an easy thing to rule out.

Exercising my 4WD on a regular basis

I previously owned a 2nd gen and 3rd gen and currently own a 4th and 5th gen. I try to make it a habit to drive in 4WD hi every few months but only when the roads are wet (the 2nd gen wasn’t solenoid operated). I might drop it into 4lo once in a blue moon. I've never had a failure to engage.

Access to oil filter w/o removing OEM skid plates

My 2nd gen, 3rd gen and 5th gen require skid plate removal for (easy) oil filter access but my 4th gen's oil filter was mounted high on the drivers side and super easily accessible. Why they went back to just above the skid plate is beyond me, other than to get lazy DIY folks back into the...

2016 Throttle Body went out …..

I've owned 7 Toyotas, 4 of them 4Runners, and have tallied well over 1 million miles and NEVER had a TB issue other than having to clean sticky linkages. Considering that Toyota is about as bullet proof as you can get, I'd shrug off the occasional/unusual failure and move on.

    TRD Pro cargo carrier

The Harbor Freight cargo carrier is the one that caught my eye when I began looking into it. Good price and I'm near a Harbor Freight. Thanks. I'll research a bit more but I may eventually go with the HF unit.

    TRD Pro cargo carrier

Can someone tell me what roof top cargo carrier comes standard on the Pro or whatever model it's called these days? My wife saw one recently and wants to buy me one to dress up our '19 ORP. I've already added the cross bars to the rack. I tried checking the Toyota accessories website and...

Rear Sliding Tray on 5th Gen

My '19 ORP came with the rear sliding tray. I've owned a 2nd, 3rd and 4th gen and to be honest, I don't care for the sliding tray. IMO, it reduces headroom. But then again, my '19 5th gen is a bit of a garage queen, getting little use, since I still have my '08 4th gen which sees over 90% of...

    New TRD Sport

I have a garage queen Mustang GT. My wife creams the passenger seat from the Stang's V8 Borla exhaust more than any hood scoop could do. :bounce:
