easiest disablement of back window? Fuses?

Wait, what? The tailgate has "features"? What features? And they'll be permanently lost, even after re-connecting it? What happens to the features if the battery is disconnected and reconnected?

audio replacement saga Part 01, speaker-shopping woes, classical music

Why shouldn't I use home-audio speakers? (I mean, just the drivers and their x-overs, obviously, not mounted in their original enclosures.) Home speakers, which are already set-up for listening tests in stores, would be much easier to find than a lot of the auto-specific speakers. And if I...

easiest disablement of back window? Fuses?

Thanks for the suggestion. I was really hoping that something this simple would work. It didn't. Holding down the fob button had exactly the same effect before and after engaging "lock all windows".

I'm glad to hear it's not just me. And I haven't really been thinking about it in terms of "best in class". I just started out with a problem of, "I can't stand to listen to the way that soprano sounds on speaker 'xyz' in the store for even two minutes", and then asking advice of forum members...

"Been there, done that." BUT... ...that was a great tip! His site has very little info, but I'll call him to ask about product-lines and show-able units. But more importantly, one of the ggl hits on him brought up a page about a list of "50 Best Installers" and "50 Best Retailers". And those...

audio replacement saga Part 01, speaker-shopping woes, classical music

From my long-ago time following and selling high-end home-audio stuff, it amazes me to see how hard it is to find a place where you can go and listen to the better car products, even from the same makers of high-end home equipment. Even my local Best Buy's home-audio department demos McIntosh...

easiest disablement of back window? Fuses?

OK, thx for the tip, had no idea that was possible. Found several threads on how to remove the panel.

easiest disablement of back window? Fuses?

Yeah, that was eventually my best guess, as I said, inadvertently. But since I'm never aware that I'm doing it, it would be easier to hack the truck than hack my hands or nervous system.

How would I know, other than asking them? I'm not personally acquainted, but happen to have their name & address from some of the dealer paperwork.

easiest disablement of back window? Fuses?

(And no, duct tape over the dash switch doesn't count:D) In just a year of ownership, I've had multiple occurrences of going out to my truck, and finding the back window is down. It's parked outside, so this is Not Good. I've gotten better at checking when I get out, but I've never caught it...

any pictures of a topless dash?

I'm interested in seeing what it looks like under the top of the dash. I'd like to know if there are any cavities which are big enough to hold speakers. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/260548-audio-replacement-saga-part-03-speakers-headliner-other-unusual-locations.html

I'm willing to do everything myself except pull the old HU. I've seen the pictures of how it it involves opening up stuff starting way back in the console. I have clumsy fingers and insufficient patience, and I'm likely to break something which the stealership wants $1k+ to fix. "Know...

Almost every day, and not that long. In the year I've had it, I've only put on about 5k miles. So, this guy walks into a bar with a frog on his head. But the frog isn't just on his head, it's actually tightly attached to the top of his head, as if it had grown out of his head. The bartender...

OK, but here's the reason I focus on that. If I buy something from them that they say will fit, it's easier to justify returning it if they're wrong. And the details of the fitment info they give (including exactly where and how some things won't fit, and by how much, including dimensions) is...

I've heard good things. Their website is a little flakey to navigate; but you inspired me to try again, in a different browser, and I've found a place about 40 minutes away which installs their stuff. I'll call to see if they have a demo setup. Excellent point. I haven't been concerned about...
