Well I'm not changing another oil filter. It was a mess to change it. I was surprised too after reading previous post I thought the filter was going to be in bad shape but it looked really good for having such many miles. I couldnt see anything in the filter other than oil.

The bottom of the filter is chewed up because I had a hard time taking that think apart.

Well I have no doubt that my oil filter will look like shit but will this affect the longevity of the engine? I believe the air and fuel filter good to change but they only require changes every 20,000 to 40,000 miles

It’s interesting most of the posts are hearsay, conjecture and speculation. No one has any first hand evidence that changing oil filters would provide and noticeable or substantial benefit. I wonder if MythBusters would take this on. I remember when they did the tailgate up VS the tailgate down...

I have 05 limited 4x4 with 130k I have had zero problems with the 4x4 system. I will go off road from to time to time mostly in the mud. The system has been 100% reliable. I've had the gear oil changed on diffs but that is it.:reddance:

Automotive engineers usually work for large Corps. and Corps. have bills to pay and they have to make a profit. If a company can add another revenue stream why not say sell oil filters and change them every 3000-4000 miles which equals more revenue. Just about any engineer would say that...

The cost is not a concern for me, like you said it’s only a few buck. 1. It’s messy and oil goes everywhere 2. It’s faster just to change the oil and move on. 3. If the filter is not doing much why replace it.
