I did this on my 97 with a 2k model console. I posted all my schematics a bit up in this thread if you want to compare connections. I followed Alex detail iirc and just repinned my 97 connector for the hazards.

Well I've got the defrost switch taken care of, so far so good. The LED for the defrost "engage" illuminates properly and functions on off via the 2000 multiswitch. I ended up using 3 wires and soldered them to the 97 board and voila! You no longer need to keep bulbs in the original defrost...

Sorry for the late reply, yes you will need the main pigtail for the ect/defrost switch. The clock switch and wiring is direct plug and play, the hazards switch uses the same connector but MUST be rewired or your turn signal will pop the fuse everytime you use it. With the weather cooling off...
