National gas tax hike talk is back, or "Tax-by-mile" driven.

Locking your door is quite different. When you lock it, it usually keeps people out. It's also a small, single portal. So you CAN actually lock it and expect it to work. The entire Southwest border cannot be "locked" in that manner. Even with a wall. There are walls and fences right now...

National gas tax hike talk is back, or "Tax-by-mile" driven.

They already did. That awesome new tax "reform" that benefitted corporations and rich people has me paying another $2-3k in taxes every year. And I'm not wealthy by any stretch. Taxes serve a purpose. But what's screwed up is who ends up paying the bulk of them. A hint: it's NOT the...

Thinking bout changing my 4runner. Good choice? let me know

+1. My last work truck Was a Ram 1500 Ecodiesel. It was in the shop almost a dozen times to "reset the EGR" after it had been idled too long and would suddenly only go 40 MPH. Dealership said "these diesels are not meant to be idled...". Someone should tell those of us in Minnesota that...

It's not that difficult: ban the bot user. Don't just delete the thread. Why some of these things still exist here and are still creating threads is beyond me.

Dometic, Engel, arb fridges your thoughts

Don't overlook used fridges. I got an older Norcold Tech II on Craigslist for $175. Works awesome. They're used a lot in sailboats, so if you're near the ocean or a large body of water, they can often be found in those communities as people upgrade.

    4th gen v8 with 125k - value?

Thanks guys! I should have specified: it’s 4wd. I had not considered the fact that the lift and tires might bring the price down. I definitely should have, considering that I look at vehicles with similar upgrades with kind of a jaundiced view, wondering if they’ve been beat up on the trail...

    4th gen v8 with 125k - value?

Greetings! I’m thinking about parting with Chuck, my 2007 V8 Sport Edition with around 125k. KBB gives me a value of around $7,000, and I just had a dealership offer me what I consider a lowball price of $5,000. I’m trying to see what the collective wisdom on this forum thinks would be a fair...

    Living Out of Your 4Runner...

It’s really more akin to camping, but I stay in my 4Runner for about 3 weeks each year. I drive from MN to VT and ME to see my brothers, other family, and some friends. Because they aren’t all in one area, I have to be a bit mobile. Also, I’m not a huge fan of hotels and the “traveling...

    2019 Hunting season

Exactly. If you use what you kill, I see nothing wrong with it. Now, I’m not a fan of “trophy” hunting, per se, and I think there’s far too much emphasis on it today. I feel that many people focus so much on it that they miss the real reason we should enjoy hunting, to begin with: to...

    Dangerous/Stupid Things You Did Alone..

In 1989, I was a member of one of the Marine Corps’s first small boat units. We were attending a basic coxswain course taught by the Dutch Royal Marine Corps and the Special Operations Training Group. Our training schedule was brutal: six days a week, 12 to 18 hours a day off Onslow Beach in...

Why do people cover their license plate?

Exactly. There are also commercial databases where you can run a plate and get a name, address, phone number, SSN, criminal history, bankruptcies, and anything else you can imagine. They are “restricted” to people who: 1) pay to use it, and 2) who have some kind of need for it. That includes...

Who is this moron impersonating a Police Officer in a 4Runner?

We get our vehicles from GSA. Traditionally, you can only get vehicles from Ford, Chevy, and Dodge/Ram, be they trucks, SUVs or sedans. You select the type based on your mission: Full-size SUV, mid-size truck, etc., kinda like rental car categories. In the last few years, foreign vehicles are...

    Shut down.......

I seriously doubt the American public is ready to condone guard towers and the shooting of illegal border crossers. If they were, the American version of the Berlin Wall would have been in place a long time ago, complete with minefields and bunkers. Ask anyone who actually works on the border...

Anyone own a Whynter 12v fridge?

I would keep looking for older, used ones. I looked at both Whynter and Edgestar, but ended up getting a used Norcold on Craigslist for $200. The person said he only used it once a year on an annual fishing trip, to freeze their catch on the way back to MN from Lake Michigan. I leave it...
