Cleghorn Ridge trail advice for December 28?

Hi all. My friends (with a Jeep) and I (with my T4R) are looking for an easy, but fun trail to do next Monday. I live in Orange County and my friends live in Simi Valley. Is Cleghorn open and easily passable right now? I'm wondering too about the amount of snow/water on the trail. Also...

    What kind of mpg?

Mileage will vary with many factors including 4X4 vs 2X4, auto vs manual, ECT vs Norm for auto tranny, large tires vs stock tires, highway vs city, heavy foot vs light foot. My 4X4 V6 with auto gets 19 MPG highway when I use NORM and 17 when I use ECT. I run the A/C all the time. I'm a little...

'98 Toyota 4Runner - $2600 (Need help in finding problems)

Yes, this seems far too good to be true. Let us know how it goes and beware of any scam. That truck is worth at least $10k if it hasn't been salvaged. Ray

Are 3rd gens more capable than Jeep Cherokees??

Who cares what he claims. I've owned both a CJ 5 and a Cherokee Sport and I wouldn't buy any Jeep now after owning a T4R. The design and manufacturing quality of the T4R is head and shoulders above any of the Jeeps. Both are capable stock off-roaders, but my T4R has a rear locker that gives...

ECT: Power setting affect on gas milage

Are you really only getting 12 MPG? Is it just due to the larger tires? Actually, I was pretty said I was only getting 17, but 19 with ECT: Normal is pretty good for a heavy four wheel drive truck. My 1972 Chevy 3/4 ton truck with a 350 V8 gets almost 12 mpg. Ray

ECT: Power setting affect on gas milage

I love driving my 4WD 2000 6 cyl automatic with the ECT tranny (power setting) on as it responds like a sports car. I wondered what cost it had on my gas milage. Well I drove an entire tankful of gas with ECT off (normal) and got 2MPG better. I mostly drove freeway miles and didn't expect it...

Oil plug gaskets? A must replace??

On my other cars and trucks, I've reused mine time and time again, but I clean it and coat with black high-temp RTV sealer before putting it back on and tightening it down snug. Mine never leak. Ray

I just ran a carfax on my 4Runner and..

Sounds like a great project truck! Or maybe sell it for a profit as a parts truck. Or better yet, if you have the space to junk it yourself, take off all the parts and sell them on eBay. You'll probably get a few grand for the individual parts. Then scrap whatever metal is left for some more...

    Engagng 4WD

I'm pretty sure this is not correct. Depressing the 4WD button on a Limited puts it into all wheel drive (4H without locking the center differential which is between the front and rear axle). This mode is safe to drive on hard surfaces like dry paved roads, as long as you do not lock the rear...

    4WD system maintenance?

Mine has the 4WD button on the tranfer case shift lever that you can push to engage 4WD without locking in the transfer case. This is primarly for driving on slick surfaces, like icy roads, but at higher speeds. This is all you need to do to lubricate the 4WD components. My user manual says...

    New '96 runner

Nice truck! Most of this is obvious, but I'll pass on what my owner's manual says about the rear e-locker. Only use RR diff (elocker) at 5 mph and below. You can use it in any wheel drive setup 2, 4, H, L. Never use it on hard surfaces that won't allow wheel slipage or you will get severe...

    1996 Limited with 63,321 miles

Shortly after I bought mine, someone offered me $10k for my 2000 limited sport and it has 150k miles. I wouldn't sell it for that price, so it is worth more than that to me. I really like the combo of 4X4 with rear locker and automatic tranny too. Ray

    New guy!

The people running the banks are idiots and got us into this huge financial problem we are in now. Cars are not going for anything close to blue book value now. Better to search eBay for completed auctions to see what they are really selling for. Ultimately, it is worth what you (or someone...

    whats my 97 worth?

Those are the same rims on my 2000 limited. You can see it here with those same rims: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?t=55106 They are factory chrome and mine are also peeling a bit. Ray
