i have done my starter two times. it is a must, the cover has to come off.

i have a 1993 runner. sometime when i come to a stop the tran seems like it is still in 4th, i manually put it into 1st with the shifter and it goes into 1st and i'am on my way. but it does not happen all the time. could it be my ECM?
