Are all the button labels on the climate control panel supposed to be lit up? As you can see, none of the words on mine are illuminated, only the symbols on the rightmost dial. Seems like the text should all be lit as well..no? It's really hard to see which button you are pressing at night. Just...

I've been looking for head unit suggestions also, but I have heard that there can be difficulties in keeping the functionality of the steering wheel controls. One installer I talked to said he doesn't even hook up the wheel controls anymore because so many of his customers have had trouble with...

Well...this escalated quickly. Before I had a chance to do any of what you suggested, the back window spontaneously exploded on me while driving to work this morning. I didn't even have the defrost on at the time (I had turned it on for maybe 5 minutes at the start of my drive to clear the side...

Update: I pulled the panel off the back gate and tried to find the connection for the defrost. I assume it's these 2 connectors on the bottom right of the window (these pics are seen from inside the panel). They look kind of burned out on the top. Could this be the issue? If so, how can I fix it?

Well, I inspected it as well as I can and I don't see any breaks in the lines. I tried the multimeter, but I couldn't get it to read any current anywhere on the lines. (Not sure if I'm using it correctly, I set it on DC and touched the black to the big strip on the side & touched various points...

Having a similar issue here. Today was the first morning cold enough to try the rear defroster on my '04 Sport, but I don't think it was working at all. The window rolls down & up fine, wiper works, but I could not see that it was defrosting at all where the wires were. The mirrors defrosted...

Thanks for the advice all. Ended up renting a car & took the 4Runner to my mechanic. He checked the coils (all good), changed the plugs & that seems to have taken care of the the problem.

Hi all; advice needed. I've owned my 04 T4R for about a month now, bought from the original owner with 230k miles. A few days after I got it, the CEL & VSA lights came on when starting up one cold morning. I did some cursory searching, decided to try tightening the gas cap & resetting the code...

Update: Smoker's Kit installed! For $25 and a learning experience, I have hands-free Bluetooth & an extra outlet. Thanks so much to rokr1292 and everyone who helped - this is one of the best forums I've ever found. Cheers!
