    another battery / starter issue

just to update anyone who has similar problems: I haven't had much time recently to work on the truck. It's also dark out every time I get back from work now, so I took it to my local mechanic. They tested the starter and confirmed it was bad. Replaced it with a reman. Denso unit. I don't...

    another battery / starter issue

great thanks for this. I got back last night and will be hopefully getting some time this week to start diagnosing using the tips you've all provided. One extra bit of info: last night and this morning, it was reeeeally cold out. The 4runner cranked to life on its first try both times with zero...

    another battery / starter issue

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm starting to think the issue is a loose connection somewhere because the issue doesn't seem to happen on warm days. As one of you said, heat causes expansion which forms a stronger connection I'm in the UK at the moment but will be investigating when I'm back...

    another battery / starter issue

unfortunately the battery did not help. So I guess the next step is the starter contacts The strange thing is that the engine does try to crank (i'd say it gets anywhere between one half and 2 rotations) and then it stops. It's not like it just clicks. after a few goes at this, it cranks...

    another battery / starter issue

Thanks guys. I just tried starting the car with the headlights on and I'd say they dimmed to about 50% Going to get the battery tested to rule that out. I'll also clean all the contacts at the same time Hoping i don't need to deal with starter contacts!

    another battery / starter issue

I've been searching for people with similar issues, but not seeing what I'm experiencing. Every now and then I'll go to start my 2000 V6, and the engine will crank a little bit (like half a rotation) and stop - just like the battery is dead. Sometimes it does this 2 or 3 times, then the next...

    2000 3.4L 4x4 feeling sluggish...but only sometimes. no CEL

I'm hoping so. If this doesn't fix it, I will be moving on to fuel delivery. Filter first.

    2000 3.4L 4x4 feeling sluggish...but only sometimes. no CEL

update: it seems it may be dependent on the temperature outside. I cleaned the MAF as an easy starting point. Felt pretty good last night, but it was also cool out, so hard to say for sure. PSA: clean your MAF.

    2000 3.4L 4x4 feeling sluggish...but only sometimes. no CEL

Even on the same tank of gas, the issue will be there sometimes, and others not. So I don't think gas is the culprit. Also, I'm familiar with the tranny holding the low gears before it's up to temp. Different issue than I'm experiencing. Thanks for the advice. I will give the MAF and...

    2000 3.4L 4x4 feeling sluggish...but only sometimes. no CEL

2000 V6 4x4 sport. ~155k miles So I'm a little confused here. Lately my t4r has felt really sluggish. Throttle response is fine, no CEL, but it feels like im constantly towing something. My freeway MPG is normal: ~20-21. Hard to say, but I think it has dropped a bit around town (probably...

Spark plug Wires @ 145k - will it make a difference

Hi folks, My 2000 sport has ~145k on it. As far as I can tell, the wires are original. The truck has felt a little underpowered compared to my last one (same year, same engine). Can I expect the wires to make it run a bit smoother? Or is it more of a preventative thing? Other info: Cleaned...

    FS: 3rd Gen 2000 4runner Highlander - SF bay, CA - $8700

El Lobo, Just replied to your email. Short answer: these things are worth what someone is willing to pay. I've kept a close eye on similar runners that have sold in my area and I think my price is fair. Of course, everything is negotiable :) Thanks for the interest! Mike
