all they would do is sell me a re-man. I had it out, the trans worked fine but I figured it would go out at the worst time. this is in northern north Dakota.

mine in my 02 limited sounded like a bad alternator, I replace it with a Toyota reman. believe it or not Toyota was the cheapest route to go. wasn't a tranny shop that would even take it apart.

I paid 7k for my o2 limited last fall 157000 miles. I had to do timing belt and it had a dented tail gate. this was in Minnesota.

that is what it took me to install mine a Toyota reman sitting in the crate. from when I walked into the shop until I drove it out. this was on a hoist with trans jack. I am a diesel mech with 30 years of experience.

most of the oil in the trans is in the torque converter, I allways put a new convertor when I am changing a auto. I just did the trans in my 02 the worst part was the convertor bolts. I took me 7 hours to install and probably 4 to remove the old auto trans/

the windshield in the 3rd gen 4runner is glued in, you will need a new outer trim strip and the correct glue and a way to apply the glue, a way to cut the windshield out. have done quite a few. it takes around 2 hours.
