I know I am late on this... but my noise was the pulley right behind the fan bracket. When I changed my timing belt and pulleys the noise went away and this turned into the quietest engine I have.

Are the shocks/coils already built? it's an easy install, keep an eye out for a local wrench meet. If they are built, it should take a short amount of time to install. If not built, it will take a little bit longer and might be more scary with a spring compressor for someone that has not done...

There are a few of them in the Katy area.. I am totally game. Seems like a lot of the local meet up groups are on facebook rather than forums. There is no local 4runner group on Facebook that I know of.

I have a Aussie locker in the front, Lockright in the rear.. I also changed to manual hubs up front. Works great off road, I shift in and out of 4L and 2H when I need to.. Steering offroad when locked is not a big deal, wouldn't worry about it. On pavement, it's not so fun.. would't recommend...
