I used a bent screwdriver/pry bar to depress the valves. I didn't really care for the pliers in those kits.
Also tried making the keeper tool out of some sheet metal. The metal I used was too thin. Then when I bought he kit I had to tig weld on additional material on the long end of the tool...
Been a while but I adjusted all the exhaust valves. I found a .002" feeler gauge which snuck into he ones that weren't registering. Bottom line. Engines back together and running great. In fact everything was going so good I couldn't stand it so I broke some stuff on the trail last weekend...
TNRunner99.... I was Just up there last weekend. Good time and there were a ton of people up there. I plan to be going up in coming weeks. Want me to give you a shout?
This weekend however I'll be pulling the gas tank and welding on the upper and lower control arm brackets I ripped off right...
JayRolla.
I plan on using the diff I have. My housing is rusted through to the point where it's seeping gear oil. 3rd member is fine, just a crap housing.
Scott.
I shot you a pm.
For those ever stumbling across this thread I think the gen2 housings are mostly the same. This one wouldn't...
Can anyone tell me if the gen2 (95' model) rear axles will work in a gen3 (99' model). I guess I should be a little more specific as well... I'm referring to the entire rear end. The housing on my 99' is rotting away and I have a line on a killer deal for a 95' model rear axle with everything...
Any CEL's? I had a similar issue and it turned out being a bad TPS (throttle position sensor). Could be a number of things though. Check for codes and be systematic when you're weeding through everything.

Hey guys. I'm on the lookout for an FJ 80 wheel. Not picky . Just no dents. Trying to match my spare to the set I have.

Only thing I can add to the above is that with your 02' you probably have your transmission cooler integrated in the factory radiator. I did a move from Maine to Tennessee in my 99' and I got the pink milkshake 2 weeks after arriving. I had lucky timing (to a certain extent), but I would t want...
I'm with ya man. I need to get my valves adjusted and some other odds and ends done while I have it tore apart in the garage. Otherwise it'll be on the backburner again.
Quick update. Ran a compression test tonight. All 4 cylinders are averaging 135psi (132-138) and holding. I'm still waiting on the valve adjustment tools to come in, but will just be going forward with the valve adjustment.
Absolutely great info. Thanks David. My only concern is that on those 5 valves I can't fit my .005 gauge in (which is the smallest gauge I have). I'll be running a compression test this week to make sure there aren't further issues on those cylinders, and hopefully be doing the adjustment and...
I did some digging per scrambles recommendation and found the following on yotatech from a 3rz in a Tacoma.

I ran a compression check when this all started and everything was good, but will run another this weekend if I get...
