99' 4Runner rear axle

Can anyone tell me if the gen2 (95' model) rear axles will work in a gen3 (99' model). I guess I should be a little more specific as well... I'm referring to the entire rear end. The housing on my 99' is rotting away and I have a line on a killer deal for a 95' model rear axle with everything.

Thanks in advance!

As a direct swap I would say no. Anything can be made to work. Make sure whatever you find has gears that match your front.

hey if you are having a hard time getting that housing, I have a complete one sitting in my garage i pulled for the third member. Was just sitting on it in case mine rusted out but I think I'll be good. 100 bucks picked up in Nashville.

Or there are several 4runners at Express Pull in Lavergne, all have the 3rd's removed but look good...in case you are up this way!

I plan on using the diff I have. My housing is rusted through to the point where it's seeping gear oil. 3rd member is fine, just a crap housing.

Scott.
I shot you a pm.

For those ever stumbling across this thread I think the gen2 housings are mostly the same. This one wouldn't work because it is about 3" too short. I suspect because of lack of abs? All other measurements matched up.

IIRC the 2nd gen rear coils springs are not the same, the coil spring diameter is larger on the 2nd gen and will not fit the coil perches or buckets on the 3rd gen axle.
