Most people do NOT reuse them. They install a new locker with a master install kit and replace all the bearings/seals. You're going to have to reset the pattern regardless.....do it right and do it once.

Gotcah. Yeah, definitely doesnt' fit a 2nd gen Dodge. Would possibly fit a 1st gen.

Mine's on the front of the core support, driver's side behind the grill mounted vertically. IIRC, I had to remove the overflow tank for the radiator to mount it there and then reinstalled the overflow.

I'd argue the thing exacerbating the problem is the social safety net that funds and perpetuates it...and you're right: it doesn't have to be that way and it is 100% the way the state is managed.

I know this is an old thread....but IME, NOTHING comes remotely close to the quality/strength/reliability of genuine Toyota OEM ujoints. I think it was Jesse over at High Angle that did some destructive testing and posted results on the PBB back in they day and the standard Toyota OEM joints...

It *sounds* like the insurance is totaling it b/c of the book value of the vehicle and cost of parts to fix it, not b/c it's structurally totaled. In this market where used cars are selling at a premium, my opinion is the insurance company is going to sell it at auction for a decent profit...
