check your tps.. if your problem is constantly sputtering try disconnecting the tps. if it goes away then you found it.

hah d@mn man, must be hittin' that highway quite a bit. Yeah this one was sitting for a few years before i got her.

I would go plugs and wires first, then cap 'n rotor, and then I would go to the throttle position sensor and throttle body.

I want to upgrade to either an '05 TL or '02 Runner.. but i've been thinking about gettin' the TL and just keeping the shiny '90.. and start doin' some mods.

yeah it's on the tps.. It's facing the back of the engine bay towards the windshield. It's tricky trying to get it off. There's only two screws top and bottom, which can strip very easily so take caution. If you can try taking your camera phone and getting a pic of the face of the tps.

I have one, let me know your model number. There is a way to test it with a voltage meter, but you need to know what wire is your signal wire and volt reference. I came across mine when it was too late so I couldn't test it. I just disconnected the tps, and knew from there.

It could be your Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Mine was doing that from time to time and then it finally went. After that I couldn't rev over 1800rpm. You can dump $$ by trying to guess and replace parts, and that's what exactly I did. Did you get a CEL?
