Drive shaft noise or U joint noise (LEXUS 4/06 TSB page 18) aka Driveshaft thump/bump

Naseeb, What has to be done is to put synthetic brake caliper grease on the ends of the pads where they contact the caliper. Mine were clicking like crazy and it 100% solved the problem. There is a service bulletin on this. What did you do...unbolt the caliper and lift it off the rotor with...

Drive shaft noise or U joint noise (LEXUS 4/06 TSB page 18) aka Driveshaft thump/bump

Well your not talking about the slip yoke then. The slip yoke is at the aft end of the driveshaft connecting to the rear differential. There is no slip yoke that connects to the Trans. This is a Universal joint. Anyways doesn't matter:)

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...I think your talking about something different. There are 2 slip yokes. Bumping is in the *rear* of vehicle and front slip yoke sits forward of transfer case. Don't see the correlation.

You had the rear "clunking" and you resolved it by lubing the *front* slip yoke???

Naseeb, I can fix your caliper problem. First tell me...do you get a "click" sound when reversing directions and then applying brakes? If so I will fix it :)

Drive shaft noise or U joint noise (LEXUS 4/06 TSB page 18) aka Driveshaft thump/bump

WRONG>>>>!!!! Talk to people on this forum. I have had the yoke off of the drive shaft. Lubed it 100% with recommended MOLY grease and reinstalled......thump still there. I have pumped enough grease to expand the yoke....thump still there. I have replaced the U-joint on the slip yoke...

Drive shaft noise or U joint noise (LEXUS 4/06 TSB page 18) aka Driveshaft thump/bump

WRONG......Nothing to do with Calipers Put your hand on your gear selector... after you release the brakes you can feel the drivetrain thump right through your gear selector.Gear selector will actually move! To prove its not the brakes.....put the trans in nuetral prior to making the...

Drive shaft noise or U joint noise (LEXUS 4/06 TSB page 18) aka Driveshaft thump/bump

""Guys it's a "Truck" AWD off road vehicle. If you want a car base SUV get one of those Lexus mini vans RX330's."" This has nothing to do with it being a "truck". Dozens of other truck manufacturers using slip yokes in their drivetrains do not have similar problems. Toyota has a design defect...

Drive shaft noise or U joint noise (LEXUS 4/06 TSB page 18) aka Driveshaft thump/bump

Naseeb I have to laugh:D It sounds like you do the exact same thing that I do in stop and go traffic in order not to have the thump hit us in the rear when driving around town. Misery loves company huh? I'm replacing that U-joint Saturday so I'll let you guys know John

Drive shaft noise or U joint noise (LEXUS 4/06 TSB page 18) aka Driveshaft thump/bump

Lubing did not help mine. Even after I removed slip yoke and completely covered the splines. What I did notice was U-Joint did not move freely when I had the slip yoke assy off. There was definetly a "detent" when rotating it. I'm going to replace u-joint and see difference. I'll let you know...

    2001 4Runner front end click/gear slap noise

When changing direction from Drive to Reverse or Visa Versa my intial application of brakes produces a loud click or what sounds like a gear slap in the front end. After the intial application it's never heard again and I have no abnormal noises when braking. Has anyone else experienced this? John

2001 SR5 4x4 It happens both ways but I seem to be able to control it if I really want to. I also live in the Burbs. What town are you in?

So far my experience has been that even though I lubed all the universals and the slip yoke, I still have the "bump" or "shudder". Are you saying yours has been completely eliminated or that it has been reduced?
