    OK - thanks all. I'll be replacing shifter socket / pieces & tranny fluid for sure. Will also take a close look at firewall, and brackets this week. Will let you know what we find and results of fix. Thanks for the tips.

    Will do Underfire. Looks relatively simple - had the shifter cover off today. I see most recommend using sythetic "Redline" oil. Is that the best or will another brand such as Lucas, Royal Purple, or just Valvoline also be good?

    Replced clutch slave cyl, adjusted clutch pedal rod. Still very very hard to shift into gear.
