Thanks for the info! I agree about not running the unknown fuel filth though the fuel pump. I was also hoping to not drop the tank, but better safe than sorry as my wife always reminds me. Why can't there ever be an easy and safe?

The yard doesn't have the ECU that came with the engine. I found one on ebay that is for a 2RZ 2wd, automatic, but I'm worried about the shift pattern being different. Is the shift pattern adjustable using the OBDII? BTW the engine does have the mini header.

Is it just me or does everyone else not see the picture of the mini header? I see some peoples pictures on the forum, but quite often not others. The coil pack vs. coil on plug connectors are definitely different. The wiring harness will come with the engine, so I just need to figure out it...

I need a long block for mu 1998 4runner. The 3RZ's are hard to find. I found a 2004 Tacoma engine and it looks to be identical from the pictures. I am most worried about the engine computer and wiring being the same.

I recently bought a used junkyard motor. I live in Ca and the 4runner was purchased in Ca. The original motor was an 8-port and the junkyard replacement is 4-port. Will the 4-port pass inspection in Ca?

I just purchased a used 3RZ from a wrecking yard. It supposedly runs and compression checks 175psi on all four cyl. I asked how many miles on the motor and the he didn't know. The motor has a 100 day warranty. Should I pull the timing cover and inspect the timing parts as per FSM or are...

I pulled down the Tacoma FSM and it only has the 5VZ motor. I will try and find a hard copy. Thanks

I have downloaded the FSM listed under the 3rd gen doc ref page. However, it only has info on the 5VZ engine. I have searched all over, but no joy.
