It was somewhat for me, as the noise "felt" like it was coming from the rear, and the wheels didn't appear to have much play on them. In my case i only targeted the front wheel bearing as i already replaced the Front Right, and it was pretty logical that the front left was on its way out too.

I'll be honest, and I want to stress that I am not trying to be negative, but it sounds like a 4runner is not the car you really want. As Inv4drZm said, you lose all the "pros" of both drive trains (2wd and 4wd), but get all the "cons" of an offroad oriented vehicle (poor handling, mpg...
