3rd gen values in northwest usa?

I consistently see higher prices on 3rd gens in the Oregon, Idaho, Washington areas than anywhere else. Anyone know why? Same condition, miles, model and it is priced at a $1500-3000 premium, above something in the midwest or east coast. Not just ebay, but CL and other common sources as...

timing belt becoming one tooth off more and more with each rotation

TB and WP replace here, 02 4runner. Watched countless videos and read all kinds of guides. Finally get it all stripped down and put the new belt on, was able to get it all on correctly, TB marks on the belt were matched up with top two pulley marks, crank mark was spot on. Clamps on top two...

steering rack replacement, now stg wheel offcenter

Ive verified the rack bellows are extended an equal 6 inches on either side, with wheels straight forward. Im willing to drop the OTRs off each spindle, in order to move the rack back and forth, counting turns of the splined shaft, as navada suggested. However, the more I think about this, the...

steering rack replacement, now stg wheel offcenter

Here are the relevant pages from the manual - can anyone identify the clock spring? Im seeing 5 tension springs....

steering rack replacement, now stg wheel offcenter

Is the clock spring visible if I take the SRS/horn pad off the stg wheel? I want to verify its not wound too much to one side....Now that Ive test driven it after the rack swap I cant say for sure where the wheel is in relation to before the repair.... Also - did anyone else have enough slack...

steering rack replacement, now stg wheel offcenter

Wait.....thinking about this more.....if I simply disconnect the entire rack assembly from the steering column, but leave it connected to the tie rods and wheel hubs/spindles - how will I know when Ive reached a rotational limit on either side? The wheel spindle assembly will stop at a certain...

steering rack replacement, now stg wheel offcenter

OK, that sounds plausible and doable....thx Nevada. Do I also need to center the steering wheel itself somehow as well, to get the turn signal to self-cancel after turns? There was mention of a clock spring - assuming that is part of the steering wheel assembly? Ive never turned the steering...

steering rack replacement, now stg wheel offcenter

OK, so how do you go about centering the rack? I can see I'll have to disconnect the outer tie rods and steering rag joint assy, but then what? I mean, is it just a visual centering? Push on one side until both boots are extended the same amount of inches? That sort of thing?

oh sweet! was not looking forward to messing with that anymore. Did you take it to the dealer or just some indie shop?

steering rack replacement, now stg wheel offcenter

Before I swapped out my rack, I centered the front wheels, taped the steering wheel to the dash and pulled out the ignition key, locking the steering wheel in place. Then I made sure not to turn the steering intermediate shaft no2 while swapping out the rack. The new rack came with inner tie...

    steering rack replace?

02 Sport. Had a front wheel come off a while back, at low speed while turning. I was lucky and truck wasnt hurt too badly. Forever to find a fender replacement...also replaced the outer tie rod, lower bj, spindle and bearing and put all back together, drove fine. A month or two later heard...

    ebrake cable too short?

I'm spoiled, no wheel chocks or squishing worries for me; I've got a lift in my basement garage. A parting gift from a deer and my last 4runner. Working alone, its difficult to see what exactly is happening once I release that hand lever. And not sure if this is normal but the forward facing...

    ebrake cable too short?

Yeah, actually now that I think about it, you're correct. Maybe over time the cable just doesn't want to move thru its sheathing from cabin to axle. Time for a new one. But if bell cranks are working right, they should pull that cable thru....?

    ebrake cable too short?

Im one of those guys that wants to understand why the repair is needed in the first place, before actually repairing it. Ive looked at the boot you mentioned and it seems very intact. Pulling it back reveals no real corrosion. I appreciate the write up but Im reluctant to blindly buy...
