I sure hope this was something they had considered, I do trust this mechanic. How I wish I had the tools and space to work on this myself. I'm doubtful that thicker oil would help much. I guess its not worst to have to put in oil every so often, a bit frustrating.

So i just had my rear main seal replaced on my 1gr-fe with 403k kms. The mechanic informed me that the oil leak may not completely stop because of a groove worn into the crank where the seal sits. Has anybody on here dealt with this issue? Will a thicker oil, say 5w40 help stop the leak...

Just wanted to add that my 2003 SR5 V6 is at 403590 Kms and running strong on the original head gasket. I had a new rad and water pump installed last year, hopefully that will help keep the engine at a safe operating temp for years to come. Take care of your 4runner and it will be fine

I was just doing some more investigating with a flash light and “thankfully” the oil seems to be leaking from the the area around where the transmission connects to the engine, so rear main seal. No oil leaking anywhere above and flowing down.

Thanks. I will spray sit down with brake cleaner and watch it over the next few days. I booked an appointment with my mechanic next week. Wish me luck

I was able to snap this shot of the leak. Looks like the Rear main seal possibly. I’ve not read anything about the front main seal, did you mean rear?

I have recently noticed oil spots underneath my oil pan. I was able to snap a few photos of the oil pan. The skid plate also has a good amount of oil on it, definitely leaking somewhere near or directly above. Gasket? Rear Main Seal? Oil pump gasket? It’s going to the shop hopefully over the...

I have a 2003 Sr5 that I am wanting to lift and build up later this year. I have been looking at long travel kits primarily the Total Chaos Long Travel Kits. Just wondering if anybody has experience with any long travel kits. Thanks for looking Nate
