This same thign happend to me tonight. Exept when the car was shaking i opend the hood, pulled off the negative terminal and it still wouldnt stop. It eventually stopped after a second or two and when i put the terminal back on it wanted to start again....exept i had no key in the car... still...

Easy way to check it is to hook up a MultiMeter to the battery when the car is off, note the reading (volts), and start pulling fuses one by one till you see it jump up I have noticed that on my 97 alot of circuits are hooked up through one fuse though, might make it a little harder to diagnose?

If you have the V6, it is a "non-interference" motor. So if it breaks, then you will most likely be fine. But if it breaks under stressfull conditions, it can still do some damage. Its worth looking at and changing rather than waiting

Could be that your throttle body got stuck closed for a second, happend on my Fiance's 01 Camry. If it happens again what I did is remove the air intake hose, spray some carb cleaner on it and move it around a little.

Was it just a one time occurance? Have you driven it since?

What one are you ooking at getting? I have a white 97 and want a good looking one, just not too expensive. Welding it on seems like it might work as a good alternative!
