Is the 5th Gen Engine Software Hackable?

Here's the link to the wired.com article if anyone is interested. Hackers Remotely Kill a Jeep on the Highway? With Me in It | WIRED Pertinent Description: There's also a good discussion going on today over on slashdot: Remote Control of a Car, With No Phone Or Network Connection Required -...

    TRD Pro Stolen

Timely and interesting Article in Wired about hacking a Jeep wirelessly : Hackers Remotely Kill a Jeep on the Highway - With Me in It | WIRED Basically, they exploit the ability to flash upgrade some of the chips, inserting their own malware. I'm not saying this bug is repeatable with Toyota...

    Long term gasoline storage

Another vote for adding Stabil and rotate. I keep 20 gallons in rotation, 10 gallons every 3 months, which means gas is never more than 6 months old. As mentioned earlier, I add the stored gas on an empty tank and fill the rest with new. Been doing this for four vehicles going back 10+ years...

Auto-shutoff not filling the fuel tank?

Thanks for this. You provide a plausible answer for one of those nagging questions that kept puzzling me - why I am never able to add more than 20 gallons in the tank - even when filling from bone dry empty. It's a bit disingenuous from Toyota though - calling it a 23 gallon tank when only...

Is the Toyota marketing fee real or just profit?

Not quite. Consumers are not scrutinizing buying a loaf of bread at one market versus another the way car buyers do. Itemization of fees are intended to narrow down the area that a buyer feels they can negotiate. Instead of having a big number that's fair game, now it's a smaller number...

    Wait for 6th gen 4runner?

To the OP: Personally speaking, I would get the last year of a generation instead of the first year of the next generation. By the final year, the bugs have been pretty well worked out. On the first year, new ones have been introduced. I know people who swear that the final year of a line...

    I need help!

It's very cool that you want to do this for your buddy. I'd suggest not trying to surprise him though by choosing the exact item. There are many styles of sliders and lights, and aesthetics play a big role in selection. Even the Grille mod is a personal choice. My humble suggestion: buy a...

    Shark Fin GPS Replacement

On the 2015, the standard radio antenna is embedded in the rearmost passenger side window. Look closely, you'll see thin wires reminiscent of in-window defrosters.

TA KO 2s out in Feb?

Another round of 275's have been delivered to suppliers as of March 1st. I got mine installed yesterday on stock suspension. No rubbing as of yet (I don't expect any given the reviews of everyone else and in addition to the tire fitment guide.)

Lift Math, Plan and Logic Sanity Check

Sorry for a possible thread hijack, but I've been looking at the Toytec Boss. 3" lift is overkill for me. Are the Toytec's adjustable in the rear to 1.5"? Since this would be my first build / modification, I really like the idea of being able to adjust things if I find out my first pass isn't...

Considering an FJ....who has left one?

I posted in the roll call thread... but I left my stock 2010 FJ for a 2015 Trail Premium because I needed more space for the wife & kids. Overall I'm happier with the 4Runner. The blind spots on the FJ are for real. You learn to deal with it though. The irony for me is that I traded in blind...

TRD Pro is hard to find in CA

As others have mentioned, I wouldn't rule out a short plane flight and driving back. After researching my 2015 Trail Prem / KDSS, none of the local dealers had interest or inventory, much less willing to make a deal. I wound up flying to Salt Lake City, and the net out-the-door price more than...

    Stupid windshield

I second the part about FJ's, my windshields never lasted more than 2 years. I suspect it was the steep angle. On my 4runner, i have a small chip on the drivers' side at 2K miles. Unless your insurance is going to pay for the Toyota glass, or you expect your 4runner to be a collector car...
