    2001 SR5 4x4 christmas lights

I also own a 1992 Toyota Supra, that's probably where I was getting the speedo cable mental picture from. I had one of those break when I was reinstalling the gauge pod after doing a transplant of a supermonitor computer in my previous '87 Supra. Drove the 4R to work today without issue, and...

    2001 SR5 4x4 christmas lights

So I was driving home the mile or so from the grocery store, and somewhere on the way the VSC Trac, VSC Off, handbrake, and ABS lights all came on.... and the speedometer stopped working and fell to 0. The tach continued to work just fine. Nothing felt or sounded wrong -- it drove normally, no...

    Bought my first 4Runner: 2001 4x4

Thanks much for the kind words! Very happy to find T4R.org as a new 'home' after enjoying my time at tacomaworld.com for the years I had tacos... and of course the SOGI email digest way back when for the Mk3 Supras (followed by supraforums and supramania). Brillo -- indeed, I've never owned...

    Bought my first 4Runner: 2001 4x4

Just bought my first-ever 4Runner -- and seventh straight Toyota (1 Celica, 3 Supras, and 2 Tacos). My most recent one, a white 2002 Taco, was totalled earlier this year, and I spent several months looking for a replacement 1st-gen Taco as I love those things. Low mileage examples are both...

    2001 4runner - looking 4 the mythic DRL module...

And just to confirm -- unlike the 2000 and earlier, one can't just pull the plug from that DRL box on the 2001-2002 that's above the throttle pedal? Presumably doing so would break additional things, and so cutting the black-with-yellow-stripe wire is the only way to do it?

    2001 4runner - looking 4 the mythic DRL module...

clearock -- that's where it's located for 2000 and earlier. OP has a 2001, and those are located under the steering wheel by the throttle pedal.

    2001 4runner - looking 4 the mythic DRL module...

The problem is that that picture is for the 2000 and earlier 4Runners. 2001-2002, as the OP's is, doesn't have that box under the bonnet -- instead, you have to snip a black wire with a yellow stripe, located under the steering wheel where one's knee is when sitting. Definitely unfortunate...
