Just bought my first-ever 4Runner -- and seventh straight Toyota (1 Celica, 3 Supras, and 2 Tacos). My most recent one, a white 2002 Taco, was totalled earlier this year, and I spent several months looking for a replacement 1st-gen Taco as I love those things. Low mileage examples are both very hard to find, and sky high prices.
Finally saw a 2001 Dorado Gold 4Runner 4x4 for sale about a half hour away from me, and jumped on it. 154k miles but in seriously solid shape -- owned by an older couple that were Toyota nuts, had a crazy-expensive house with 4-car garage and lift where the guy did his own work on his cars, including restoring an old Land Cruiser. Documentation and receipts in manila folders, the works. He was asking $6k, so I just bought it right then and there -- seemed like a solid price for the incredible shape it was in.
The previous owner had put on an Old Man Emu 3" lift kit which really suits the 4R well. Not a fan of the chrome bumpers at all, but that's what Flexidip is for
WeatherTech rubber mats throughout. Has a sunroof which I like and the usual power locks/mirrors, but no power seats. Windows are heavily tinted -- I like a light amber tint, but these are so dark I can barely see out of them at night, so will probably remove that tint at some point.
I've already started on a modest 'build', which I'll document in a separate thread, and unfortunately didn't take a lot of pics as it was when I bought it. Here's a picture of it I took as I was driving away from the PO's house after I'd purchased it (returning the next day with girlfriend to drive it home):
And a couple shots of the interior seats/dashboard:

I'll post subsequent pictures in the build thread. For now, have been really very happy with this '01 -- it is a real change from the Taco, and an adjustment re: not having a pickup bed into which one can easily just toss things. On the other hand, I'm really enjoying the quieter ride, the sunroof, and the covered cargo area where I don't have to worry about rain getting things wet.
