Maybe the park service needs to start 'rating' vehicles...on what qualifies or not by their definition and testing. Then they can give out true 'trail rated' badges to the manufacturer's models that earn them...

Isn't there an issue using a compass inside or near a vehicle...couldn't the compass be influenced or interfered with by the vehicle's various metallic and electronic components? I know the electric compass like the one build into some rear view mirrors are 'compensated' for vehicle...

Well, if you got money, then enjoy it however you like. While I did buy my '05 4Rrunner new (custom ordered), I find it more enjoyable buying a good used vehicle. I enjoy wrenching on things and tinkering with things...up to a point and having a used vehicle with some blemish is so relaxing...

Right, the whole park is bigger than the state of Rhode Island, I believe. I've been there 3 times and probably only saw about 1/4 of it (probably less)...and this is well before some of the roads were washed out (Scotty's Castle).

Yes it would. One thing told to me on my first trip to Death Valley...most deaths are not caused by the heat, scorpions or snakes...it is caused by vehicle rollovers. If you want to enjoy the scenery...stop the car. Don't try to admire (and there is a lot) the view while on the road. Have fun!
