It sounds like something more severe than just worn shocks to me. My 'past-due-for-replacement' shocks have 130k on them, and while the ride is more reminiscent of a Buick right now, it does not feel the least bit unstable or out of control. Perhaps 1 or more of your shocks are completely...

Keep your 4Runner and buy a used Quad if you want an off-road toy. It will be at least as fun and cost alot less overall. Off-roading street vehicles is an expensive hobby.

I was out on the Toyota Configurator and was suprised at the first image that autoloaded. It looked great! It was the 4cyl. No overdone body kit that the V6 SR5s and Limited have, No ugly black bumpers, doorhandles, and mirrors that the Trail has. This is how they all should look!

It's hard to say this early and alot of it has to do with supply vs demand. If toyota wants to move 100K 4runners a year like they used to, they are going to need some serious incentives. When they cut back on the incetives this year vs previous years, sales have tanked.
