Been lookin around the site, can't seem to find info about turbos being added to 3rd gens. Is it just a big waste of cash? too tough on the engine? too much $?:shrug:

guess i don't have an open diff...a stock '97 has a limited slip diff right?....the auburn site says that i would get a limited slip and diff lock, and says that with ARB i'd get open diff and locking diff capabilities. If I install an ARB, will I lose limited slip capability? Don't understand.

Any opinions on which selectable rear locker is betterfor a '97? ie - OX, ARB, Yukon zip, Eaton, Auburn?

OK, since I know a little bit more, and I do mean A LITTLE, i guess my stock '97 has an open diff, right? and i'll look for a selectable rlocker brand (for the rear). What is a lunchbox locker? Full carrier replacement lockers are full-time, locked diffs right (and not for me)?

I am assuming that getting a rear locking diff is the best way to start. But I hear/read a lot about front lockers too. Should I start with a rear locker? ARB seems to be the preferred one. Any opinions?

Hmmmm....i'll check, smoke disappeared real quick when I stopped.... Been a while since I ran a vehicle hard, and I think I would recall that stinky clutch smell....Before the climb, We did ford a creek, and smacked the skid plates kind of hard .... But there was no problem then. I almost don't...

I was climbing a pretty steep grade, and buddy said 'just use 4H', so I did, about 10 minutes of climbing grassy, hill, a black smoke came out of the engine compartment. But it disappeared in about a minute. I went back into 4L, climbed the hill, no problem. Oil, clutch cylinder fluid, brake...

Someone here pointed me to VA4x4.com. They have a lot of info about GWNF. I'm interested in camp sites too. Me and bro in law might have to head for some easy stuff, cause we'll try to camp with the kids. I think I saw some info about camp sites near the trails. Need to check again though.

Nova Hey xlaxx...I just got a t4r, and live in NOVA, where do you go off-road? I know NOVA is closed down, so do you head for GWNF? PA? MD? I go some info from VA4X4, but just askin locals.

Congrats - I'm new to the forum too, and 4runners. Mine is a little older - '97. Do you know of any good off-road locations, close to NO. Virginia? The closest 'legal' trail is out by Wisp ski resort - 3 hrs away! Trying to find something closer. PA maybe? And tired of looking at this or that...
