Just make sure they are adjusted correctly. It sounds like they might be close to the tolerance and once they warm up the metal expands to make them work right. But these are old trucks now. Maybe do a complete brake flush and see if it helps too. Does it have ABS? My old one did not but...

When you say you can turn it by hand did you leave some drag on the shoes? They need to drag a little and consistently as you turn all the way around. You may also need to replace the springs or "hardware" as they call it.

My only other piece of advise is I would recommend doing it when the engine is cold. Rapid cooling from spraying water on a hot exhaust header could cause a crack. Its not the best to spray down a hot aluminum head either.

I washed my engine lightly with a hose and it started running rough. Turns out water got past the spark plug cap on the valve cover and pooled at the bottom. This caused intermitant shorting and missing. Now I don't wash the engine, or just mist it.

I burned out the light on mine it was on so much. The runner had 230k miles on it when I sold it and the trans was still working fine.

:iagree: Excellent post. If your brakes lights are on the cruise won't go on. But if they won't turn on (like with a dead battery) then you can't shift out of park. So I'm not sure what is the problem, but it could likely be related to a short in the brake light circuit.

Do you have leather seats? I think only the cloth seat runners had them. I put maps in mine a couple times and most recently some shells I found that my girlfriend wanted to keep to make into jewelery. Its a safe place where they wouldn't get crushed by anything else.
