Whats my 4runner worth? 4cyl 2wd 227k miles

I'm selling my 2000 4runner. It has been in the shop for 3 weeks for a head gasket on my rebuilt engine (bored .020 over). I know it will need more work down the road just based on the mileage so I decided to buy a newer car.
My question is, what is it worth? Kelly blue book doesn't seem to reflect the ridiculous high prices people ask for Toyota trucks. Blue book is $3900, in good condition. with a ripped seat, missing knobs, aftermarket stereo, stains in the back seat, steel wheels, no tow package, no roof rack and oxidized paint for $3700. Its seems to be similar in price and condition to other 4runners this age. Mine has none of those problems, plus a newly rebuilt engine and keyless entry which I added. What should I ask, I'm not in a hurry and I want max dollars.

The only known issue in my runner is their is a very small leak in the rack and pinion seal, which is leaking into the boot.

Less than a 4wd by a good margin. My local market for 2wd may be worse than yours but I bought mine with 150k for $2900. Rebuilt stuff maybe worth more to a buyer and maybe not.

It only rains here about 2 weeks a year and everybody with a 4x4 goes out and gets it stuck. Or if they survive they drive around with mud on their car for a week to show off
I'd say 4wd is a moot point, but I know some people will pay more for it. 2wd gets better mileage, is easier to work-on and tend to be less abused. So I guess it all depends on what the buyer is looking for. Maybe I'll try $4900 obo and see what happens.

I just blue booked it. 4cyl auto, 2wd, with that mileage and kbb is saying $2300 in fair. $3050 in good. $3500 in excellent. The aftermarket keyless entry may bump it up $50 bucks or so. I know it has a new motor. so you can add some, but not the price of the motor work.

That would be my argument against you if i was a buyer. Hell people pay all sorts of crazy prices. I think you should be happy with anything aver $3500. But nothing hurts you to ask way more. It only takes one to buy it

There is no way carmax would give you 3k for it. More than likely they will offer you $1500 or so. All Carmax is going to do is run it through their ring, which they are going to try and make money on. It might bring $2500 through their ring on a good day. A realistic private party price is going to be $3-3500 I imagine, at least here in TX. 2wd and 4cyl doesn't have a lot of market value. I think you may have gotten mixed up with the ad he posted showing a 4Runner at a dealership.

"Carmax" would not give you 10 cents for it as they do not buy vehicles with more than 115,000 miles on them.
If its truly rebuilt engine with all the paper work you might get $3K for it if you are lucky.
But its a 2.7L and 2WD and the rest of the vehicle has 1/4 of a million miles on it.
Even for a 4Runner that is starting to approach the UP THERE range unless the entire truck has been rebuilt from ground up.
In which case you would lose money selling it and be better off keeping it.

I put it on Craigslist last Friday night for $4200. No mention of the miles. I got three calls on it almost instantly. So I take it to get smogged and it passes no problem, but as I'm driving home it starts running real rough, the check engine light comes on and flashes and I find its not firing on #1 cylinder. A guy calls me while I'm checking it and I tell him he can't come see it right now, its not running right.
He tells me he still wants to see it and maybe I can reduce the price. So I pull the plug and its a little wet, but when I put it back in and put it back together it starts and runs ok. So the guy comes to see it and it runs fine, no signs of any problems, but I had already told him it was running bad. Being honest, I tell him I'll drop the price to $3000 and he takes it.
Maybe I could have gotten more, but my life has been a stressful hell since I started having problems with it and it was time to let it go!

I still like the community here so maybe I'll pop in once in a while. My 4runner replacement? A lower, wider, more powerful version of the SUV. A Dodge Magnum V8. If its a lemon maybe I'll get a 5th gen 4cyl to replace it in a few years.
