    Differential Lock Engagement

I'm afraid that's not helpful in the least. What might be damaged and how? or is nothing going to break? Is it just a question of being more difficult to control the vehicle or something?

    Differential Lock Engagement

Sorry to revive an old thread. Found this, and I'm curious. Presumably toyota has some reason for the "don't drive over 5MPH the with the locker engaged" sticker that's on the driver's side door. Anyone know what Bad Stuff

    Maxxis MA-761 Tires?

Yeah, I realize that without shelling out some big bucks, I won't be able to get something totally impervious. And even then, probably not really. That's life, I suppose. I'd just like to not totally rip up the tires right away if it can be avoided. Hopefully these'll add a little bit more peace...

    Maxxis MA-761 Tires?

Yep. these are the ones I'm looking at. They still come out a decent savings over the Revo's, which are jsut passenger vehicle rating. My concerns out here are much more sharp rocks and sharper plants than anything else... Grip is rarely a problem, as evidenced by the fact that I made it up...

    Maxxis MA-761 Tires?

Yeah, I did that (as mentioned in the first post :-). He suggested the Maxxis tires as a good compromise. I guess they're kind of new, tho, so nobody's familiar with them?

    Maxxis MA-761 Tires?

yeah, I have to assume that's what he meant. I'm not really all that into spending super big bucks on a set of tires at this point, if I can avoid it all. My 4Runner gets used for weekend climbing, mtn biking, and hiking trips, which around here means there's bound to be some off-road involved...

    Maxxis MA-761 Tires?

Well, my offroading this weekend finally trashed the tires that were on my '99 SR5 when I bought it in January. I knew it would happen sooner or later, as they were wussy street tires and definitely not up to the rocks and cactus of Southern AZ. There are big chunks of tread missing all over the...

Most Miles on 1 Tank of gas?

Yeah, but then try taking the Jetta on an even slightly questionable dirt road. It'll either be stuck or broken (or both!) so fast it'll make your head spin. As to the original question, my '99 SR5 4WD v6 gets about 17-18 around town and 20 on the freeway. Haven't tried to run the tank all the...

Most Miles on 1 Tank of gas?

Hahaha. Just for some amusing context, my other car (the one I use when I'm not going offroad or carrying lots of people/bikes/stuff) is an '04 VW Jetta TDI (that's a diesel). It gets around 700 miles on a tank of fuel!

    Full-length skid plates on a '99 SR5

What I'd really like to find is a skid plate for the center bit that's currently uncovered, where the center differential is. I don't remember seeing anything like that on any of those sites.

    upgrade tires

I think you'd have a very hard time finding a tire that couldn't handle NYC's snow on that vehicle.

    Propane conversion

Anyone have any experience or advice on propane conversion? I'd love the option of burning it instead of gas when it's available. I couldn't seem to find much about it, tho I know it's possible. Specifically, I'm looking for any conversion kits that have already been well-established and are now...

    Full-length skid plates on a '99 SR5

Just got a '99 SR5 here. It's reason for existing is to get me to all kinds of cool places in the backcountry here in Southern AZ and surrounding areas. Usually, this involves long weekend road trips with 3 or 4 of us, carrying a load of food, camping gear, climbing gear, and/or the mountain...
