Most Miles on 1 Tank of gas?

Right now I'm just about at the 3/4 full mark, and i've got around 50 mpg.

Here are some facts about me and my car:
-I sometimes do hard accels, and sudden stops. I once in awhile floor it.
-My PSI right now is at 26. I haev 31x10.5x15 tires. The maximum tire PSI is 40.
-In San Francisco, the mornings are cold, and the weather is generally could, it does warm up latter in the day. But only somtimes.
-I do not use ETC, I have stock everything except head unit lol.

Would anyone recommend anything to get better gas mileage?

I think you ment to say you have 50 miles to the tank. 50MPG is unheard of.

ok skeptics.... Since I started this wonderful thread :D I wanted to chime in and tell ya how many miles I have so far....

218 with the needle getting really, really close to the LINE next to that E thing. (whatever that means...)

I'm gonna see how far I can go until... well until I chicken out. The last thing I wanna do is bleed hoses all night long... Sucking dry is a bad thing, unless you're getting... nevermind, family forum.

Anyone? Do I just need a tune up?

Also. I get about 13MPG on just city driving alone, on the freeway I get about 18 or so, I've actually averaged almost 20 MPG once, it was like 19.7.

so I get from Full to midline between 1/4 and E, with about 230 miles.

I mainly drive all city, maybe 10 of those 50 miles is highway. My air filter looks clean. I've put like 800 miles on a new stock airfilter only.

i think it might be the tires, I measured them again, and they were 29 PSI. The maximum PSI is 50 or 40 I don't know. The website says 50, but I saw somewhere to not inflate more than 40.

How high should I inflate the tires?

ok so here are my final results...

242 miles

The gas warning light came on at 235, but I didn't want to push it.

I filled up 17.4 gallons of gas for a grand total of $37.00

ADD: This was 99% city driving.

Hahaha. Just for some amusing context, my other car (the one I use when I'm not going offroad or carrying lots of people/bikes/stuff) is an '04 VW Jetta TDI (that's a diesel). It gets around 700 miles on a tank of fuel!

Yeah I hate hearing those kind of stories. I read a few months back on a VW forum that a guy w/ a VW Diesel TDI Wagon wanted to find out what was the maximum milage he could get, so he went on a business trip, drove instead of flying, took mostly straight and level roads (no curving or going up and down hills) and went 62mph. This blew me away, but he got 1405 or so miles out of 1 tank of gas! Now granted he brought the car and it came w/ a 20 or 24 gallon gas tank, but still, 1400 miles on 1 tank is awesome!

I just love hearing about these stories and then getting in my '00 T4R and filling it up again after only 250 miles. It sucks

Yeah, but then try taking the Jetta on an even slightly questionable dirt road. It'll either be stuck or broken (or both!) so fast it'll make your head spin.

As to the original question, my '99 SR5 4WD v6 gets about 17-18 around town and 20 on the freeway. Haven't tried to run the tank all the way down on a long trip yet, so not too sure how many miles I could really squeeze out of it.

Wow, you were pretty low. When I went 400 miles on 17.5 gallons, it was way below empty on my fuel gauge. You know we only have a 18.5 gallon tank. I wouldn't push it that far again. I usually fill up at 16 gallons or so when the light comes on.

Sorry for myt multiple post, but do you guys think it could be a gas sensor?

I just filled up my tires to 35 PSI, maybe this will help, I have not noticed a difference though.

Do you think it be my fuel gauge reporting inaccurately? I really don't know. I don't want to run on fumes or anything, but it just seems SO bizzare thta I'm under 100 miles and my meter is under halfway.

That's kinda crappy with a 2wd as I drive hard, mine's 4wd and I have D load range AT tires and I get near the 230 mark and I might squeeze in 15 gallons. The most I've ever filled in my tank was just under 16 gallons.
