Got a call from the shop yesterday and apparently the transmission from the salvage yard isn't the right one...so back to the drawing board.

Really wishing I'd read this before I drove out there! The transmission did indeed have the transfer case attached, they said they'd remove the transfer case...but instead of saying 'no, it should come with it', I said 'no, how much more for the case'. Cost me an extra $200.

Hi all - I've had my 4runner for 21 years now, only 140k miles on it. Was driving down the freeway the other day and after some serious metallic grinding it just dropped out of gear and wouldn't go back. Got it towed to a transmission shop and they're saying the transmission is definitely done...
