I have the same problem and a Toyota mechanic told me that it is the steering wheel shaft that sometime has "play" and the only way to fix it is to replace it. So eventially I will do that and post back.

Just finished installing the homelink. Looking for the original connector for the 1A connector, it looks like that would be difficult without a part number.
